The newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Ishola Olanrewaju, has declared war on crime, vowing to “smoke out” criminals from the state.

At his inaugural media briefing, on Wednesday, he paraded 98 suspected criminals and emphasised a proactive approach to dismantling criminal networks across the state.

Olanrewaju’s strategy includes partnering road transport unions to tackle “one-chance” robberies. Read more

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed an unconditional and comprehensive investigation into the allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

This was disclosed in a statement signed by his media aide, Babatunde Alao, on Wednesday in Abuja.

On Tuesday night, popular influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, released the audio where Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, purportedly claimed he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million and the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa to avoid spending his term in jail. Fubara inaugurates taskforce to revive Songhai farms (Tribune)

Rivers Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday, inaugurated a 5-man task to undertake the immediate reviving of the State Government-owned Songhai Farms with a charge on them to deploy their technical capabilities to ensure that the moribund agriculture facility was fully recovered.

Speaking during the inauguration, which took place at the Government House, Port Harcourt the Governor said that diversifying the economy of the Rivers State had become inevitable because of the need to solve the problem of food shortages while also providing jobs for the teeming unemployed youths of the state.

He explained that the problems of youth unemployment and food shortages were the reasons why great care was taken to critically look at the prospects of revitalising the Songhai Integrated Farms, which is located in Bunu Tai, in Tai Local Government Area of the State. Read more

IGP mourns 5 cops killed in accident after Edo election duty  (Channels)

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has commiserated with the Kano State Command, families and friends of five policemen who lost their lives in a motor accident on Tuesday.

The officers died at Karfi village in the Kura Local Government Area of Kano State while returning to Kano after the Edo State election duties.

In a statement on Wednesday, Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP saluted the sacrifice of the police officers and prayed for the repose of their souls. Read more

2 die, others missing as flood ravages Ibadan communities (Nation)

No fewer than two person died on Tuesday when flood ravaged some communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

On Wednesday, some parts of Oluyole and Ibadan South West local government areas were affected by heavy flood leading to the destruction of property worth millions. 

A statement by NEMA South West Zonal Coordinator, Olanrewaju Kadiri said :”The flood disaster affected residential buildings, shops and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, and many persons were also displaced. Read more

Funding won’t delay Abidjan-Lagos Highway project – ECOWAS (Leadership)

The ECOWAS Commission has assured that funding would not delay the 1028km Abidjan-Lagos highway corridor as construction of the  project begins in 2025.

Chairman of the steering committee and Nigeria’s minister of Works, David Umahi made the disclosure at the 21st steering committee meeting of the Lagos-Abidjan corridor highway development project in Lagos.

Umahi said the project was initiated in 2013 which was about 11 years ago, but Covid-19 pandemic caused a three-year delay despite having several funding partners, especially, the African Development Bank(AfDB) that have been part of the process. Read more

FG increases NYSC members allowance from N33k to N77k (Vanguard)

The Federal Government has approved a 133% increase in the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024.

This development follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, aimed at enhancing the welfare of corps members.

The approval was communicated through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta. Read more

Fatman Scoop’s cause of death has been confirmed following his sudden collapse and subsequent death at a gig in Connecticut last August.

Richard Simmons’ house manager petitions to be restated as co-trustee of fitness guru’s estate (People)

Richard Simmons’ longtime housekeeper and friend has filed a petition against the late fitness guru’s brother, claiming she was pressured into giving up her role as co-trustee of Simmons’ estate during a time of extreme stress.

Teresa Reveles lived and worked with Simmons for 35 years starting in 1987 until his sudden death at the age of 76 in July.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Reveles filed a petition alleging that Richard’s brother Leonard (Lenny) Simmons and his wife Cathy Simmons requested that she sign paperwork stripping her of her role as co-trustee of Richard’s estate just days after his July 13 death while she was “understandably distraught.” Read more 

Calls for NYC Mayor Eric Adams to resign are growing louder (NBC)

New York City Mayor Eric Adams faced a wave of calls to resign Wednesday evening following reports that he is expected to face federal charges as soon as Thursday.

It is not clear what Adams will be charged with, and spokespeople for the FBI and the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

Putin warns West of nuclear attack over airstrikes on Russia from Ukraine (IndiaToday) 

President Vladimir Putin warned the West on Wednesday that Russia could use nuclear weapons if it was struck with conventional missiles, and that Moscow would consider any assault on it supported by a nuclear power to be a joint attack.

The decision to change Russia’s official nuclear doctrine is the Kremlin’s answer to deliberations in the United States and Britain about whether or not to give Ukraine permission to fire conventional Western missiles into Russia.

Teenager Ethan Nwaneri scored his first Arsenal goals as they cruised to victory over League One Bolton to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from football aged 31 after suffering a serious knee injury.

The defender joined Serie A club Como this summer having left Manchester United at the end of last season after his contract expired.
