Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team  of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Bureau FIB-IRT have arrested four suspected members of a kidnap syndicate that abducted wife of a popular  Rivers-based businessman, eight months ago.

The woman, Mrs Hussana Adamu, was on her way to drop her children at school when the armed  kidnappers intercepted her near Casablanca Club , Government Reserved Area , Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

They dragged her out of her car and ordered  her into their operational vehicle before  zooming  off, with haze of dust billowing .

She was released a week later, after payment of N20 million ransom. Read more 

Rescue efforts ongoing for lady who jumped into lagoon – LASEMA (Nation)

Adetutu Adedokun, the DSS personnel who jumped into the lagoon in Lagos, is yet to be rescued, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has said. 

She jumped into the lagoon some days ago after an alleged argument with her fiancee while in an Uber car on the third mainland bridge. 

Giving an update on the search efforts, to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu,said: “Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, LASWA and officials of the Department of State Services are currently on the ground working together to search for the victim.”

The Public Education Officer, Lagos State Fire Service, Amodu Shakiri, also stated the same. Read more

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola has left his daughter, Florence who is popularly known as DJ Cuppy shocked after he gifted her a country house worth £5,000,000(N2.6bn).

The popular disc jockey turned 30 on Friday. She revealed the gift she got from her dad as she shared a screenshot of a conversation she had with the business mogul.

In their chat, Cuppy accused her father of forgetting her 30th birthday to which he replied that such could never happen.

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-olu, yesterday gave out laptops, tablets and other educational materials to school children from the 36 states of the country.

The First Lady presented the gifts to the selected school children who were participating in the ongoing National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) tagged ‘Eko NAFEST 2022’ when she hosted them at the State House Marina.

The governor’s wife, who is Mama NAFEST 2022, said the decision to host the children at her official residence “was intentional to give you a sense of history,” adding, “We want you to be part of the history too.”

Portable set to marry pregnant lover (Punch)

During the week, there were reports that controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, had impregnated his lover, and had introduced her to his wife Bewaji. This was even as he allegedly brought the pregnant lady to live with him and his family.

Bewaji reportedly got angry, but she was begged by family members, and she agreed to let things go.

However, a source close to the singer confirmed to Saturday Beats that Portable plans to marry the pregnant lover called Keji. According to the source, Portable met her at a birthday party.

Obaseki sets N60b IGR target for 2023 fiscal year (Guardian)

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Friday set an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target of N60 billion for the 2023 fiscal year in the state.

Obaseki disclosed this during the sixth edition of the yearly Alaghodaro Investment Summit in Benin.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the summit is organised yearly to mark the anniversary of Obaseki in office and showcase the progress being recorded in transforming the state.

Group honours 109-year-old war veteran, others (Punch)

The Nigeria Legion on Friday in Abuja, honoured a 109-year-old Nigerian Army veteran, Mr Mele Ture, and others who fought World War I and II for their selfless services to humanity.

The National Chairman of the Legion, Major General Abdulmalik Jibril (retd), said the awardees were being honoured because of the role they played during the wars which brought honour to the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event, which was organised in collaboration with the Green Heroes Foundation has the theme, “Celebrating Our Heroes”.

According to Jibril, the whole essence of the event is to celebrate Nigerian heroes by bring them together and reassuring them we still appreciate their sacrifices through securing the territory. Read more 

UI graduates now accepted at NYSC Orientation Camps- official (Guardian)

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) says it has taken action to resolve the challenges its graduates are facing with registration at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Saturday, Mrs Joke Akinpelu, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Communications, UI, said that graduates of the institution were now being registered in camp.

“UI is already doing what the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) requires of it and the prospective corps members from the institution are now being accepted in camp,” Akinpelu said.

NAN recalled that a few days ago, graduates of some universities including UI and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) who reported to the NYSC orientation camps across the country were not registered by officials. Read more

 Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, who starred in The Salesman, could face being arrested after she posed without a headscarf. 

The 38-year-old uploaded a photo of herself without her headscarf in protest of the regime she has been critical of in the past. 

In the image, the film star can be seen standing against flowery wallpaper, holding up a hand written sign that read, ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ in Kurdish.

Disney+’s Percy Jackson TV series has added a brand new cast member to its roster, and this time, it is Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The show’s Twitter account announced earlier this week that the Tick Tick Boom director will be joining the ever growing cast as the messenger of the gods, Hermes.

“A message from the messenger god himself: Lin-Manuel Miranda is Hermes in #PercyJackson and the Olympians, an Original series coming to Disney+!” the caption read.

They also posted two pictures of the actor alongside a chair with his character name and the show’s logo on it. Read more

Banksy artworks appear on destroyed buildings in Ukraine (Aljazeera)

British renowned street artist Banksy appears to have confirmed that he is behind artwork which recently appeared in Ukraine.

Banksy, whose identity remains unknown, posted on Instagram on Friday evening pictures of street artwork on a destroyed building, captioned “Borodyanka, Ukraine”.

Borodyanka, a suburb of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, has been heavily bombed since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbour on February 24.

The work shows a girl apparently doing a handstand on chunks of broken masonry on the grey wall of a war-damaged house. Read more

Joni Mitchell announces new live album of comeback Newport Folk Festival performance (NME)

Joni Mitchell has announced plans to release her comeback Newport Folk Festival performance as a live album.

Earlier this summer, Mitchell performed a surprise set at the legendary music festival – which she last appeared at in 1969 – delivering a 13-song “JONI JAM” set that featured Carlile on the tracks ‘Carey’, ‘A Case Of You’ (for which Marcus Mumford was also welcomed out) and ‘Big Yellow Taxi’.

In a new rare interview with Elton John on his Rocket Hour radio show for Apple Music, Mitchell revealed that plans are in place to release the performance as an album. 

John said: “I’ve seen you through music, and of course your incredible rehabilitation, but music has helped you so much and it’s beautiful to watch you evolve. And people out there, you haven’t heard things from the Newport Folk Festival yet, but I think there’s going to be an album coming out of that one?” Read more

Tupac Shakur’s stepfather to be freed from prison after more than 35 years (NBC)

After more than 35 years in prison, Mutulu Shakur, Tupac Shakur’s stepfather, will be released on parole on Dec. 16, when he’ll spend what are expected to be his final days among family and friends.

The U.S. Parole Commission in October granted a request to release Shakur, an activist and holistic health care advocate, now 72, according to court documents obtained by NBC News. The decision to grant parole was made public on Thursday. 

Shakur has several health issues, most notably stage-3 multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that can affect the bones and kidneys. He is being held at a federal medical center in Lexington, a prison in Kentucky for incarcerated people who require care.

“There are a lot of tears of joy,” Jomo Muhammad, an organizer with the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, who has been working to free Shakur, said of the decision. “There’s still disbelief because we were steadying ourselves for another denial. Now folks are excited about being able to reunite Mutulu with his family. We were crying together. It’s a long time overdue.” Read more

US President Joe Biden’s Democrats have inched closer to keeping control of the Senate, with a projected win in Arizona following the midterm elections.

Three days after Americans voted, the BBC’s US partner CBS estimates Democrat Mark Kelly has beaten Republican challenger Blake Masters.

That would leave the Senate at 49 Democratic seats and 49 Republican seats.

Kirikiri road and Babani street had to decide who went home with the third Ajegunle Peace Cup trophy via penalties after they were inseparable for the duration of the game.

The long search for the vacant permanent Bournemouth managerial position has come down to former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa and the club’s current caretaker Gary O’Neil, with Bielsa looking to be the favourite in the eyes of the Bournemouth board.

Most recently at Leeds, Bielsa’s only job in English football so far, he got the side back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence. They finished ninth the season after their promotion, and Bielsa was then sacked in the February of last season after a string of poor results.
