The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has dismissed the three policemen who raided elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark’s Asokoro, Abuja residence on Tuesday.

The policemen had searched the Ijaw leader’s residence for arms and ammunition following a tip from one Ismail Yakubu, who claimed to have received the information from an unidentified taxi driver.

The Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, explained that Insprs. Godwin Musa, Sada Abubakar and Yabo Paul were dismissed for   “the unauthorized, illegal and unprofessional misconduct in the search of the residence of Chief Edwin Clark in Asokoro, Abuja.” Read more

1.38m PVCs Uncollected In Lagos – INEC (Conscise)

Some 1.38 million Permanent Voter’s Cards are yet to be collected in Lagos State, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Lagos State, Sam Olumekun, gave the figure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday.

“We still have about 1.38 million PVCs uncollected as we speak. Only about 15 per cent of the 2017 new registrants whose cards have been produced have come to pick their cards. It is very poor. Read more

28 persons in trouble for allegedly setting Iwo police station ablaze (PM News)

The Police in Osun on Thursday arraigned 28 persons before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun for their alleged involvement in burning down a police station in Iwo, Osun.

The police arraigned Raheem Adewale, 26, Lateef Oluwafemi, 28, Ishola Jimoh,19, Kazeem Rafiu,31, Kabiru Mudashiru, 35, Ajayi Michael, 18, Wasiu Suleiman, 40, Adeyemi Buhari, 25, Matthew Tochukwu, 26, Tella Akeem, 36, Kamali Dudu, 25, Arioye Saheed, 25, and Adeniyi Muhammed,23. Read more

All Progressives Congress, APC, has welcomed Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, into the 2019 presidential race on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but with a reminder to him that Nigerians have become tired of his brand of politics.

Thugs invade APC secretariat in Ondo (Punch)

Some residents of Okitipupa in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Thursday, scampered to safety as thugs invaded and disrupted activities at the All Progressives Congress Secretariat.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the thugs destroyed parts of the secretariat, setting party flags ablaze and tearing posters of candidates vying for chairmanship, councillorship and ward leaders’ positions pasted at the secretariat. Read more

A presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, has listed what he considers corruption cases in the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Two docked for alleged killing, robbing man of $80,000 (PremiumTimes)

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded two commercial drivers, who allegedly killed a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, Victor Thorpe, after robbing him of $80,000. The accused, Monday Okoh, 50, and Johnbull Friday, 35, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, robbery and manslaughter. Read more

Woman seeks dissolution of marriage over alleged battering (Punch)

A house wife, Mrs Comfort Oshanupin on Thursday urged the Customary Court in Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti to dissolve her 10 years marriage with one Seun Dada, over alleged battering.

The 30-year-old mother of two was seeking separation on the grounds of alleged frequent fighting and beating.

The estranged wife made the plea after several attempts by the court for the wife and husband to settle amicably.

Oshanupin opposed the suggestion made by the court for family members to intervene in the matter. Read more

NCC threatens to seal satellite firm over unauthorised channels (Guardian)

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) yesterday threatened to suspend operations of Hashtronics Satellite Limited failure to produce evidence of authorisation for broadcasting and re-broadcasting of satellite channels to subscribers.

Director of Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Alewo Amodu, who issued the threat during an unscheduled inspection on Hashtronics Satellite office in Kano following series of petitions against the firm. Read more

Trump administration looks to sidestep limits on detaining immigrant children (CBSNews)

The Trump administration said Thursday it plans to circumvent a longstanding court agreement that governs how children are treated in immigration custody, in part to detain families longer as a way to deter migrants from crossing the Southwestern border illegally.

Japan has cancelled Friday’s international friendly with Chile scheduled to be played at the Sapporo Dome after a powerful earthquake struck the northern island of Hokkaido on Thursday, the country’s soccer federation said.
