Ikeja Vive La Paix Lions Club takes medical outreach to Oregun

As part of its activities to reduce blindness and create awareness on how to take care of the eyes as well as give free glasses to people who need them, the Ikeja Vive La Paix Lions Club on Monday organized an awareness campaign on care of the eyes in Oregun, Lagos State.

The theme of the event which was “Preserving sight” was led by Dr Kelechi Onyedi and at the event the attendees’ eyes were screened and those that needed glasses received them.

The attendees that needed referrals were referred for further investigation and treatment.

Speaking at the event, Lion Beatrice Ene Agbo, the Charter President of Ikeja Vive La Paix Lions Club, said that October is a month dedicated to preserving sight, adding that the event was primarily organized to make people aware of the need to take care of their eyes.

According to her, “People do not take care of their in the country until there is a problem and they always present when it is late. Our aim is to create awareness about the eyes and make them to know that it is important that they take care of their eyes regularly before the condition worsens. Yes, we know that things are difficult for Nigerians; at the same time we want to create awareness about taking care of the eyes.”

Janet Akinbi, the activity chairperson of the club, said that event was organized to benefit the Oregun community, which she said has many market men and women as residents who may not have the time and resources to visit the hospital or clinic.

She said that members of the Ikeja Lions Vive La Paix Lions were happy with the huge number of people who attended the event.

In his talk on how to care for the eyes, Dr Kelechi Onyedi stressed the importance of caring for the eyes.

He stated that the eyes are the crown jewel of the body and need to be cared for regularly.

He advised attendees to check their eyes once every year at reputable clinics, adding that they should not wait until they have issues with their eyes before seeking medical help for their eyes. (Independent)
