Police uncover illegal malt factory in Ikorodu (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command says it has uncovered an illegal brewery at Egbe-Afa in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, while five suspects have been arrested.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, made this known to newsmen at the scene on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the illegal brewery was producing Malt drinks, stout and ethanol which they pumped into trucks to bottle at another location. Read more

Woman flees as boyfriend drowns in hotel (Punch)

A 35-year-old man, identified simply as Sikiru, has drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel in the Ishashi area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Sikiru and his girlfriend had visited the hotel – Regional Hotel and Suites – on April 2 when the incident happened.

The girlfriend was said to have fled the facility while the hotel manager reported the case to the police who removed the corpse and deposited it in a morgue.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said a preliminary investigation by detectives who visited the scene showed that there was no injury on the corpse. Read more

Robbery suspect caught while beating girlfriend (Punch)

A suspected robber, Rilwan Wasiu, has been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

The 20-year-old was reportedly beating up his girlfriend on Thursday under the Adeniji Adele Bridge when he was caught.

According to the police, some officers who were on patrol around 10pm on the day had been drawn to the noise of the scuffle between Wasiu and his lover.

The men had tried to mediate when a toy gun allegedly fell from Wasiu’s body. When interrogated, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a three-man gang which specialises in dispossessing stranded motorists of their valuables. Read more

Court remands Dane for allegedly killing wife, daughter (Punch)

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, on Wednesday ordered the remand of Peter Nielsen, the 53-year-old Danish national accused of killing his wife and their three-year-old daughter.

Peter was arraigned on two counts of murder before Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye. He would be kept in the Ikoyi Prison pending legal advice from the state Directorate of the Public Prosecutions.

This is just as the police claimed that investigation into the murder showed that the suspect allegedly poisoned his daughter after allegedly killing his wife. Read more

Suspected ‘yahoo-yahoo’ boys arrested by EFCC officials (Vanguard)

Photos below show four suspected fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo-yahoo’ boys arrested by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday.

Reports have it that they were arrested by the EFCC Lagos office in the Lekki area of the state for their alleged involvement in cybercrime and money laundering activities.

Charms were part of the items recovered from them, via the official tweeter handle of EFCC. Read more

5 Lagos police cooperative officers arrested for fraud (Punch)

Five policemen attached to the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society in Ikeja, Lagos State, have been arrested for alleged fraudulent conduct.

The suspects, including senior officers and rank and file, were reportedly picked up by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Monitoring Team. Punch Metro learnt that the policemen were being investigated for an offence bordering on illegal withdrawals of sums estimated at millions of naira from the cooperative’s account.

It was gathered that the fraud had been on for about three years until recently when it was uncovered by the authorities. Read more

Homosexuals fight in Lagos after contracting HIV (Punch)

There was chaos in Egbe, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, when some homosexuals allegedly fought one another after contracting the Human Immunodefeciency Virus.

Punch Metro gathered that one of the men, identified as Ezeugo, infected his first lover with the virus.

Ezeugo had reportedly brought in another boyfriend to the house and was about to make love to him when the first boyfriend raised the alarm around 3am on Tuesday.

Our correspondent learnt that policemen from the Ikotun division were invited by residents and the suspects were arrested. Read more
