Trouble seems to be looming between Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha and the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over move by the state government to conduct a biometric verification of workers in the state.
The state government also planned to commence electronic payment for the workers and re-implementation of staff payroll.
But yesterday, the Imo State NLC leadership has rejected the entire programme, stressing that it will make the workers redundant and “would have great effect on the public service.”
The workers’ union also contended “that the cumulative effect of the redundancy would lead to arbitrary sacking of workers and that the programme cannot be fully realised within the remaining lifespan of the present administration.” Read more
