The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel,  has ordered the arrest of the inspector who killed a resident during a clash between some rival gangs in the state.

At least two residents of Kano were shot when the police were invited to quell an outbreak of violence at Kurna Asabe area of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, on Wednesday.

Following a clash between the gangs, which resulted in loss of a life, aggrieved residents blocked the ever-busy Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo to Mile ‘Tara’ road. Read more 

Knocks as church invites Pasuma, Portable to praise night (Punch)

A branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos State has come under fire for inviting Fuji singer, Pasuma, and street-hop artiste, Portable, to its praise night event.

The flyer for the event was posted on the church’s Facebook page on Wednesday, and netizens took to the comment section to slam the church for inviting secular artistes to its event.

A Facebook user, Bolanle Bamidele Adewuyi, wrote, “This is disheartening… Is this what you turn the Church of God to? It’s hilarious.” Read more

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas says the current administration cannot afford to fail Nigerians by changing the rots and chart a new course for the citizenry.

Abbas said this while giving his remarks during the presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill by President Bola Tinubu.

NUPRC wades into Chevron, host communities dispute (Sun)

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has asked Chevron Nigeria Limited and some communities within the company’s Warri exploration and production area, in Delta State to sheath their swords over issues around the composition and naming of the Host Communities Trust Fund.

The Commission, in a statement, insisted that while the matter was being resolved, the law will not be jettisoned as all operations of the petroleum industry are guided and guarded by law.

The Commission explained that the dispute between Chevron and the Ugbororo, Ugbegugun and Denbele communities in Warri South Local Government of the state was over the naming of the host community trust fund established for the communities and the composition of its Board of Trustees. Read more

Oyo sensitises commercial tricycle, motorcycle operators on registration (Guardian)

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday in Ibadan held a one-day sensitisation meeting with commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators ahead of its compulsory order on registration.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Dotun Oyelade, in his opening remarks at the event harped on the need for a proper registration of motorcycles and tricycle operators.

Oyelade said the exercise would help in the documentation of riders in the state. Read more

25 die in multiple auto crash in Kwara (Nation)

Multiple auto accidents have claimed no fewer than 25 persons in Kwara state.

It was gathered that about 15 persons also sustained serious injuries in the unfortunate incident which occurred around 4 pm on Tuesday, November 28.

Fire service source said that the accident occurred at Peke, Okoolowo area along Jebba-Bode-Saadu road in Moro local government area of Kwara state. Read more

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed four people including security operatives in the Aguluzigbo community in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Libya sends nearly 250 migrants back to Niger, Chad (AfricaNews)

Libyan authorities have deported 248 undocumented migrants to their home countries Niger and Chad in a joint effort by rival administrations in the war-torn country. The North African country has became a hub for tens of thousands of migrants seeking to reach Europe by sea every year, often falling into the hands of trafficking gangs that extort them for money.

An official with Tripoli’s government agency against clandestine migration said 120 Nigeriens had left Libya for Niamey in coordination with the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM).

And in coordination with Libya’s eastern-based authorities, 128 migrants would be taken to the border with Chad, said the official. Read more

Maren Morris won’t be going “pop” anytime soon.

The country star, 33, opened up to Variety in an interview honoring her as Changemaker of the Year about her relationship with country music since announcing her departure from the toxic aspects of the business in September in The Los Angeles Times.

David Fuller: Mortuary bosses of murderer who abused over 100 bodies showed ‘persistent lack of curiosity around his actions’ (Sky)

Bosses at one of the hospitals where a double murderer was able to abuse dead bodies for 15 years showed a “persistent lack of curiosity” during his offending, an inquiry has found.

David Fuller, who was a maintenance worker, abused the corpses of at least 101 women and girls at Kent and Sussex Hospital and the Tunbridge Wells Hospital before his arrest in December 2020.

His victims ranged in age from nine to 100.

The government launched an independent inquiry in 2021 to investigate how Fuller was able to carry out his crimes undetected, with the first phase of the probe looking at his employer – Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Read more

Catholic actor Jonathan Roumie partners with child sponsorship charity for special milestone (CNA)

The Catholic child sponsorship charity Unbound announced Tuesday that Jonathan Roumie, the actor who portrays Jesus in “The Chosen” TV series, has partnered with them to sponsor their 1 millionth child currently living in poverty. 

Roumie, a devout Catholic, was cast as Jesus in the Christian-produced hit TV series “The Chosen” in 2019. He has since gone on to headline the 2023 March for Life and has partnered with the popular Catholic prayer app Hallow on numerous occasions, among other projects. 

During a November visit to Unbound’s headquarters, Roumie had a virtual visit with a 6-year-old girl from Rwanda who Unbound says is the 1 millionth child to enter their program. Roumie first began sponsoring with Unbound in 2019, financially supporting and writing letters to a child in Tanzania.  Read more

The pope asked an aide to read his speech for him at his weekly audience in the Vatican on Wednesday, with the 86-year-old “not well” enough.

Pope Francis, who on Tuesday cancelled a three-day trip for COP28 in Dubai scheduled for the weekend, coughed near the end of the hour-long audience with the public as he made some final comments.

He then stood up from his chair in the Vatican’s auditorium to give his blessing, and with a voice barely above a whisper he said “since I am not well” his reading would not sound “pretty”. Read more

Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze has scored his first goal for AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund in San Siro on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Chukwueze levelled the result for Rossoneri on the night after 37 minutes with a spectacular solo effort dribbling past two BVB players before smashing a low shot right into the bottom corner.

The former Germany U19s ace passed away suddenly, with German outlet BR24 reporting that Diawusie’s death was due to “natural causes.”

Germany’s Thiaw set for long lay-off with hamstring tear: AC Milan (France24)

Malick Thiaw is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after AC Milan said on Wednesday that he had suffered a hamstring tear during their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

In a statement, Milan said that Germany defender Thiaw underwent tests on Wednesday morning which showed a “severe musculotendinous tear of the biceps femoris in his left thigh”.

Milan did not say for how long Thiaw would be out of action but added that the 22-year-old would have further tests on the injury “in 7-10 days”. Read more

Nwadike, who scored Nigeria’s first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup goal against Canada in the 1995 tournament in Sweden, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Manchester United are prepared to replace summer signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat as they target four new faces in January, according to The Guardian.

Mount, 24, and Amrabat, 27, have failed to impress since moving to Old Trafford and both have come under consistent criticism from supporters. It would appear United boss Erik Ten Hag agrees, as he is open to offers to sign £55 million-man Mount just six months after his move from Chelsea and won’t sanction a permanent deal for Fiorentina loanee Amrabat.
