Ishola takes over as Lagos police commissioner

Mr. Olanrewaju Ishola has officially taken the helm as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, succeeding Mr. Adegoke Fayoade. The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

In his inaugural address, Ishola pledged to enhance the state’s security framework, promising fairness and firmness in his dealings with law-abiding citizens. He called on Lagos residents for their cooperation, urging them to provide timely information to support the police in safeguarding lives and property. Ishola assured the public of adequate protection for all residents, with the exception of criminal elements.

Ishola, now the 40th Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, brings extensive experience to the role. A graduate of the University of Ibadan, he holds a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning. Since joining the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent in 1992, he has attended key training programs, including the Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja. His career includes notable positions such as DCP Operations in Zone 2, Lagos, and CP Port Authority Police-Western Port, Lagos.

Meanwhile, former Lagos Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC). After the handover, Fayoade assumed his new position at Zone 2 Command, Lagos. He expressed gratitude to the officers and staff of the Lagos command for their dedication and urged them to maintain their professionalism.

As the new AIG, Fayoade has assured residents of Lagos and Ogun States of continued security efforts, emphasising a commitment to keeping officers vigilant for the safety of all.
