President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad by three months. The National Judicial Council approved the appointment of Justice Muhammad following a recommendation sent by President Buhari. Muhammad was sworn in as the acting CJN on January 25 by Buhari after the president suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria following the directive of the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder due to what it described as the high rate and prevalence of drug addicts across the country. The agency said it was shocking that Nigeria was leading even beyond the international coverage of drug abuse globally.The Director, Public Affairs, NAFDAC, Dr Abubakar Jimoh, said this on Saturday while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin. Jimoh said the agency has an average conservative estimate of about 15 million people who are on drugs and 3 million of them could be conveniently called drug addicts. Read more

Ayade donates N1m to inmate who delivered twins in Calabar Prison (Guardian)

Ben Ayade of Cross River has donated N1 million and other gift items to the management of the General Hospital Calabar for the upkeep of the prison inmate who gave birth to twins at the hospital on Thursday April 18. Ayade, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, said on Saturday in Calabar that the gesture was a special Easter gift to the mother of the twins; a boy and girl. Ogun community demands justice over murder of monarch (Punch)

Community leaders in Owo, Yewa South Local Government of Ogun State, have demanded justice over the alleged murder of their traditional ruler, Oba Patrick Fasinu, who was burnt to death about two years ago. The slain monarch was waylaid, hacked and burnt to death by suspected assassins while he was returning from a meeting of traditional rulers in the Ilaro area of the state in July 2017. A large hoard of cash has been found at the home of Sudan’s ousted president Omar al-Bashir and he is now being investigated for money laundering, prosecutors say. Kabul attack: Seven killed at Afghan ministry of information (BBC)

Seven people were killed in an attack on the Afghan ministry of information in Kabul, officials said. An explosion was heard at 11:40 local time (07:10 GMT) and sporadic gunfire continued for over six hours before officials declared the incident over. A ministry source said one of the attackers got inside the building. The wife of a Ku Klux Klan leader in the US state of Missouri has admitted shooting him dead two years ago. Malissa Ancona, 47, was sentenced to life after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and other charges. She had initially said her son, Paul Jinkerson, carried out the killing but in court on Friday said this was not the case. He still faces trial. India chief justice Gogoi accused of sexual harassment (BBC)

India’s Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has been accused of sexual harassment by a former Supreme Court employee. The 35-year-old woman has filed an affidavit alleging two instances of misconduct in October last year, shortly after Mr Gogoi was appointed. She says her family was victimised after she refused the advances. A statement said Mr Gogoi, 64, “totally denied” the “false and scurrilous” accusations. A blind Japanese sailor has completed a non-stop Pacific crossing, reportedly making him the first visually impaired person to do so. Mitsuhiro Iwamoto, 52, sailed the 8,700-mile (14,000 km) crossing with the help of a sighted navigator. His 12m (40 ft) yacht made port in Fukushima on Saturday morning, ending his two-month trip.
