JAMB: Father Arrested For Impersonating Son During UTME (Sun)
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that a father has been arrested alongside his son for impersonating the son during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who disclosed this while on an inspection tour of the UTME centres in Kaduna on Wednesday, said the 2024 examination is largely well conducted, except for a few cases of impersonation, which became possible because some people now have multiple National Identity Number (NIN).
Prof. Oloyede warned that those who cheat in the exams will be arrested either now or much later after the examination, saying that, JAMB has improved its technology to check those engaging in all forms of examination malpractices. Read more
Keyamo orders suspension, audit of Dana Airline after Lagos Airport incident (DailyTrust)
The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has ordered the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to suspend Dana Airlines pending an audit of its financial and health audit of the airline.
This comes a day after one of the aircraft belonging to the airline was involved in a runway excursion at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation of the incident involving the airline’s flight 9J0352 (registration number 5N-BKI) carrying 83 passengers and 6 crew members which departed Abuja at 8:20 AM local time and arrived in Lagos around 9:20 AM.
‘To Facilitate Purchase Of Cars, Houses’, Tinubu Approves Credit Scheme Takeoff (Channels)
President Bola Tinubu has approved the takeoff of the first phase of the Consumer Credit Scheme to facilitate the purchase of houses and cars by working Nigerians.
In a statement on Wednesday, presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said the Consumer Credit Scheme will enhance the quality of life citizens by allowing them to “access goods and services upfront, paying responsibly over time”.
“It facilitates crucial purchases, such as homes, vehicles, education, and healthcare, essential for ongoing stability to pursue their aspirations,” the statement added. Read more

The Ounje Eko market initiative of the Lagos state government where foodstuff is sold at a 25 percent discounted price will continue until further notice, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said yesterday.
Sanwo-Olu stated this at the official launch of the Eko Cares initiative, a comprehensive response of the government to the temporary hardship occasioned by the global economic crises.
The governor, during a media chat in February, listed some palliative measures to be adopted to ease the economic burden on residents.

Less than 24 hours after his redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office), Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, has rejected his redeployment and consequently resigned his position from the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Recall that the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, had in a statement issued on Tuesday evening, announced a minor cabinet reshuffle by Governor Fubara, which saw Adangor moved to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office) while the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Isaac Kamalu, was redeployed to the Ministry of Employment and Economic Empowerment.
The affected duo are die-hard loyalists of immediate-past governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike. Read more
Police arrest 3 car-snatching suspects, recover 12 vehicles in Delta (Independent)
The Police in Delta State have apprehended three individuals suspected of car theft, and they have successfully recovered twelve vehicles from the suspects.
In a statement released by SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, it was revealed that the suspects were apprehended on 11/04/24 at approximately 16:32 following a tip-off from an individual, whose identity remains confidential, residing on Abuja Road in DSC Township, Orhuwhorun. The informant reported that his Toyota Corolla Saloon Car had been stolen from its parking spot in Orhuwhorun. Read more

Slain Osun cleric’s family alleges plot to bury murder case (Punch)
The family of late Morris Fadehan, the pastor in charge of Celestial Church of Christ, Grace of Comfort Parish, Ilode, Ile-Ife, Osun State recently murdered in the church has demanded the intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that all those involved in the dastard act are apprehended.
PUNCH Metro had reported that 65-year-old Fadehan was allegedly murdered on the premises of the church by his assistant, Lekan Ogundipe, on February 26.

An Iranian revolutionary court has sentenced well-known Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi to death for charges linked to Iran’s 2022-23 unrest, his lawyer told Iranian newspaper Sharq on Wednesday.
Salehi in his songs supported months of protests in Iran in 2022 sparked by the death in police custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman arrested for allegedly wearing an “improper” hijab.
