The James Currey Society will host British writer Chief Keith Richards and Nigerian writer Toni Kan Friday 3 June 2022 during an evening of readings and conversations at its monthly lecture series titled: “Glass Ceilings & New Vistas.”
Time for the event is 3 – 5 pm local time at the African Studies Centre,13 Bevington Road, Oxford, OX2 6LH.
Author of Never Quite the Insider: A Nigerian Memoir, Richard’s career has spanned over three decades of involvement in developing markets, especially Africa. A former Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, he was also Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc and of International Equitable Association (IEA).
In recognition of his work with communities he has several chieftaincy titles and is a fellow of Lagos State Polytechnic.
Richards, a member of the Order of British Empire (OBE), also served on the boards of several industry groups, some of which include The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), The Advisory Panel of the Businessday Newspaper (where he has been a columnist) and the Development Board of Pan African University/ Lagos Business School.
Toni Kan is a Nigerian writer, editor, public relations senior management executive, and teacher. He is author of the collection of short stories, Nights of a Creaking Bed, noted for exploring themes on African sexuality, and published by Cassava Republic Press and The Carnivorous City, a novel about the city of Lagos.
The James Currey Society was founded by Nigerian writer, filmmaker and publisher, Onyeka Nwelue, to study the works of eminent British publisher of African Studies, James Currey.
It runs the James Currey Fellowship in cooperation with African Studies Centre, University of Oxford, as well as the James Currey Literary Festival, The James Currey Writing and Publishing Workshops, and the James Currey Residency.
