Japanese man aged 112 named world’s oldest man

Chitetsu Watanabe, who was born on March 5, 1907, in Niigata, north of Tokyo, was officially given the title “World’s Oldest Man” by Guinness World records on Wednesday.

He is aged 112, married with five children and claims that the key to a long life is to “not get angry and keep a smile on your face.”

Speaking on his choice of food, he said he has a penchant for sweets such as custard pudding and this has not affected his health.

Japan has one of the world’s highest life expectancies and has been home to several people recognised as among the oldest humans to have ever lived as reported in Microsoft News.

In support of the above, the last man who held this title was also from Japan. Masazo Nonaka died last month at 112 years and 266 days.

Jiroemon Kimura who is also Japanese was the longest-living man on record. He died soon after his 116th birthday in June 2013.

However, the oldest verified person is Jeanne Louise Calment of France, he died in 1997 at the age of 122, according to Guinness. (Text courtesy of The Guardian)
