A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe, has made the list of the new commissioner and special adviser designates of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration. Igbokwe created controversy on Tuesday after saying on Channels TV Politics Today that anyone who criticised the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for nonperformance was from the pit of hell. Kidnapped DPO regains freedom after paying N3m ransom (Punch)

The Divisional Police Officer, Delta State command, who was allegedly kidnapped along Benin-Asaba Expressway on Friday between Onicha-Ugbo and Issele-Uku axis has regained his freedom. A source at the state police command headquarters in Asaba told The PUNCH that the victim was freed by his abductors after paying a ransom of N3 million. The gunmen were said to have shot indiscriminately before whisking the victim away to an unknown destination. Read more

Seasonal monsoon rains batter the country every year, but the recent deluge has submerged entire communities, with AFP drone footage showing only the tops of houses visible. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has officially said sorry to hundreds of victims of historical abuse in state-run homes. From 1945 to 1976 children were sexually abused, beaten and drugged at the homes, an official inquiry found. The abuse took place across Denmark and campaigners have for years appealed to the state to accept it was at fault. “The apology means everything. An Israeli air flight attendant who fell ill with measles on an El Al flight from New York to Israel has died, Israeli media say. The 43-year-old woman became unwell on the flight in April. Three young French children drowned off the Normandy coast when a family’s motorboat was struck by a huge wave and capsized in windy conditions. The opera singer Plácido Domingo has been accused of sexually harassing several women over a number of decades. Eight singers and a dancer claim they were sexually harassed by the Spanish tenor from the late 1980s, according to the Associated Press.
