Jose Mourinho has sanctioned Alexis Sanchez’s request to return to Chile as he recover from the hamstring strain which will rule him out until the New Year.
The 29-year-old has scored just once this season and has failed to display the devastating form which marked him out as one of the Premier League’s most devastating forwards during his time at Arsenal.
Sanchez suffered a serious hamstring injury in training last week and is likely to miss up to 10 matches with United hopeful he will be fit in time to take part in the FA Cup third round tie against Reading in the second week of January.
As well as his struggles on the pitch, Sanchez has had to come to terms with the break-up of his long-term relationship with former girlfriend Mayte Rodriguez and United chiefs, including Mourinho, believe the former Barcelona star would benefit from an extended break in his homeland, according to the Independent.
‘There have been no scans yet. But the player is experienced, the player knows what the injury is and also from the top of my experience, just the painful scream and the way the injury happened, I know it’s going to be for a long time,’ the United manager said ahead of last weekend’s draw with Southampton.
