Kaduna: Police nab suspected gun-rummer with 202 rounds of ammunition

The Kaduna State Police Command said on Tuesday that it apprehended a suspected gun-runner identified as Musa Yusuf with 202 live rounds of ammunition in Tudun Wada area of Zaria, Kaduna State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a release said the suspect was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. on January 17, 2024, during a tactical operation by policemen attached to Divisional Police Headquarters Tudun Wada, Zaria.

According to him, Musa Yusuf of Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State was accosted by the Police while he was on a commercial motorcycle with a suspicious handbag.

“The said suspect alighted the motorcycle, abandoned his bag, and attempted to escape. He was chased and apprehended and when a search of his handbag was conducted, two hundred and two rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition were retrieved.

“Early inquisition revealed that Musa Yusuf was on an errand for a bandit alias Emir in Zurmi forest. He was to receive the ammunition at Bakin Kogi in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State and convey the same to the said bandit.

“He has since accomplished the first stage of the mission by collecting the ammunition but was intercepted before delivering by the ever vigilant Police Officers attached to Tudun Wada Zaria Division.

“Investigation is still ongoing and concerted efforts are being made to arrest his accomplices. After which case will be charged to court”, Hassan said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Audu Dabigi, applauded the vigilant alertness of the Police Officers and called for more visibility policing.

“He charged operatives to dominate their area of responsibilities and make their presence felt to deter criminals from carrying out their nefarious acts in the state,” he added. (Sun)
