Kebbi Governor’s wife, Zainab, advocates wearing of hijab as antidote to rape

Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, says, the wearing of hijab, is an effective antidote to curtailing the prevalence of rape against women and girls in the society.

She stated this at the official students’ hijab flag off and renaming of Government Day Secondary and Primary School, Eastern Bye Pass, Birnin Kebbi.

Zainab Idris expressed concern about the increase in rape cases now rampant against girls of all ages.

The wife of the Governor explained that the significance of hijab was solely to protect the sanctity of womanhood and discourage indecent exposure of body features of women and girls against any harm.

She solicited the cooperation of local government Chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, principals, teachers, parents and guardians to support the awareness campaign to widen the scope of hijab wearing among girls in schools and generality of women.

She disclosed that the current administration of her husband would enforce the law on rape which specified 18 years imprisonment for convicted rapists.

The wife of the Governor urged wealthy individuals throughout Kebbi state to graciously donate pieces of hijab to girls’ schools towards attaining the desired objective.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande in her remarks urged teachers in the schools to uphold their obligations of imparting quality knowledge on the pupils and students.

The Principal of the school, Hajiya nana Aisha Muhammad commended the government of Dr Nasir Idris administration for giving priority to the education sector.

She requested for the provision of an ICT laboratory equipped with computers and construction of additional classrooms in her school. (Sun)
