Hit-and-run bus driver kills LNSC officer in Lagos (Guardian)

The Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Ejigbo, Lagos State, has warned the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to fish out the commercial bus driver who killed one of its officers at Iyana Ejigbo Bus Stop on Monday.

An officer, Nsude Chika, attached to Iyana Ejigbo, was knocked down by a ‘Danfo’ bus at Power Line Bus Stop, Iyana Ejigbo. He died on the spot while the driver ran away. The deceased was said to be on his way to his duty post when the incident happened at about 1:30p.m. on Monday.

A resident of Ejigbo said the driver, who was driving against traffic, ran away with his passengers after knocking the victim under a moving trailer.

“The sad news is that he was knocked down by LT bus plying one-way and knocked under the trailer. It is even funny that no LASTMA official or policeman could pick the bus number nor arrest the driver till he ran away with passengers inside the bus.” Read more

Two robbers nabbed while sleeping in stolen car (Punch)

Two yet-to-be-identified suspected robbers have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly dispossessing a driver, identified simply as Utibe, of his Toyota Corolla car, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects had ordered a ride from Utibe, who works with a car-hailing company, Bolt, around the Lagos Business School area of the state.

While on their way to their destination, Utibe’s friend, @sama_on_point, chronicled on Twitter that the suspects brought out sharp objects, stabbed the driver and absconded with his vehicle.

He stated that the car stopped abruptly on the way, adding that the suspects thought fuel had finished in the vehicle and slept in it until the police tracked them to the location.

The tweet read, “This guy below is my friend’s driver. A ride was ordered at about 8:40 pm on Sunday, Sept 20, 2020. He arrived at the pickup location just after Lagos Business School at about 9 pm. As he started the trip, the 2 guys (riders) stabbed the driver and drove off with the car. Read more

Police explain brutality in viral video of arrested suspect (Guardian)

The spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to a viral video circulating on social media where police officers from Igando division violently arrested a suspect, 28-year-old Stephen Ade.

The video featured a police officer pushing a young man into their van, following his arrest last Friday. In a statement yesterday, the spokesperson said the video was “carefully edited by the sender to remove the barrage of insults the suspect hauled on the police officer in the presence of civilians.”

According to the police spokesman, “the inspector captured in the video is Stephen Inumanu, attached to Igando Police Station, Lagos. He was deployed on a routine stop and search duty on September 18 around 1:15p.m. with two other team members, at Isuti Road in Egan area, Lagos. Read more

Alleged ‘Yahoo-boy’ wanted by FBI for $6m scam turns himself over to EFCC (Vanguard)

One of the suspects wanted by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Felix Osilama Okpoh, has voluntarily turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A statement by the EFCC made available to Vanguard on Tuesday, explained that the suspect, was accompanied by his parents to the Lagos Zonal Office of the commission where he turned in himself.

Okpoh, during interrogation, said he made the move to surrender himself to the Commission out of respect he had for his parents and his resolve to be morally upright. Confirming the development, the EFCC in the statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the agency had commenced an investigation into the role played by the suspect in the alleged $6 million scam. Lagos court jails Internet fraudster for six months (Punch)

The Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, on Monday, sentenced one Imole Oluwasegun to six months’ imprisonment for being involved in an Internet scam.

It was gathered that Oluwasegun was arrested following intelligence received by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission about the activities of some young boys in the Ikorodu area of the state, who were living flamboyantly without any known means of livelihood.

According to the anti-graft agency, investigation revealed that Oluwasegun was involved in a love scam and used fake identities to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Oluwasegun was arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Dada on three counts bordering on possession of fraudulent documents containing false pretences, use of fake documents and impersonation.

He pleaded guilty to the charges. Read more

Police reacts to alleged brutality by staff in viral video (Guardian)

Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims that its personnel allegedly assaulted a 28-year old Stephen Ade while enforcing an arrest.

Police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Tuesday that the inspector in a viral video acted within the limit of “the use of minimum force” and was assisted by a non-police official to effect the arrest.

Adejobi said the Inspector Stephen Inumanu of Igando Police State, seen in the video, was deployed on routine stop-and-search duty on 18th of September, 2020 around 1:15 pm, with two other team members, at Isuti Road in Egan.

“While on duty, the team sighted two nervous young men who took to their heels for the unexpected presence of policemen but the team gave them a fierce chase and one Stephen Ade, 28 years old, threw a micro wallet to his partner, who escaped in another direction; then, two of the policemen chased the escapee but to no avail,” Adejobi said. Police boss declares war on traffic offenders, cultists in Lagos (Guardian)

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has re-echoed his zero-tolerance for violation of traffic rules and readiness to constantly prosecute traffic offenders who drive or ride against traffic.

He also warned those riding motorcycles on restricted areas and using the BRT lanes to stop doing so.

The police boss, who condemned the act as criminal and unacceptable, directed the area commanders, divisional police officers, and heads of operational and tactical units in Lagos during a routine briefing with the officers at the Conference Hall, State Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja, to arrest offenders. Police arrest man for allegedly killing poly student for ritual (Punch)

It’s sunset at dawn for 20-year-old Toluwalase Kembi, a polytechnic student awaiting industrial training.

A visit to her friend in the Ikorodu area sadly led to her death allegedly by boyfriend who claimed he was paid N2m to carry out the act.

The 33-year-old suspect, Owolabi Yusuf also known as alfa, is now cooling his heels in the custody of the Elere Police Division in the Agege area, where the matter was reported to.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim, who lived with her parents on Orile Road, TabonTabon, Agege, had gone to sleep over in Yusuf’s place in the Ladeja area of Ikorodu, on July 28, when she was allegedly clubbed to death and her body reportedly cut into pieces for ritual purposes.

The family told our correspondent that the police had yet to recover the corpse. Read more
