Kingsley Ogoro: Shots of a movie maverick

Kingsley Ogoro will be 53 on August 29 in a few weeks’ time. In the fraction of the time he has spent on God’s earth, he has been able to achieve a great deal in his chosen showbiz career particularly in music and the movies where he has consistently set the pace. For instance, when he wrote, produced and directed Osuofia in London in 2003, the entire industry went the way of comedy, shooting films that were very much like it. Then came Across the Niger on the Nigerian civil war and The Widow on the plight of the Nigerian widow and the ripple effect of his productions took over the Nigerian film industry like a conquering wave.

The film producer, director and CEO of Klink Studios may not directly be involved in making films or music at the moment, but he is now in the business of building capacity for the industry he loves so much. This is in the form of the Kingsley Ogoro Film Academy location in Surulere Lagos valued at N1billion.

Born on August 29, 1965, he studied banking and finance at the Uthman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto where he graduated in 1988. His foray into the movie industry was as an actor before he went in to Klink Studios in 1992. There was also Kingsley Ogoro Records, which helped in shaping the Nigerian music industry. He has made Lagos his home.

Bet you didn’t know that in 2011 his daughter with singer Esse Agesse, Ewoma Unuezi Ogoro, emerged a beauty in Ireland.
