A lady has been found dead in a room at Eagle Rock Garden and Suite, Yale Okeowo Street in Ago Palace, Lagos.

The lady had lodged in the hotel in company with a man suspected to be an advance fee fraudster (yahoo boy) last Wednesday night ,but was found dead early Thursday morning.

The suspect, who claimed to be Kelvin as indicated in the receipt provided by the hotel management ,took of after commiting the dastardly act. Read more

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has criticised the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration for approval of N8,000 as palliative about 12 million households over the period of six months to ameliorate the hardships faced by Nigerians as a result of subsidy removal.

Obi who spoke on Saturday at the graduation of the Class of 2023, Pacesetters Schools, Abuja, said almost every family in Nigeria are vulnerable and are feeling the pains of the fuel subsidy removal, including teachers who are poorly paid and a lot of them being owed for months in some states.

He stressed that N8000 to 12 million households was not enough to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, insisting that almost every parent need the money across the because of the level of poverty in the nation. Read more

Police sent me to 44-day jail over dog – Lagos hairstylist (Punch)

A 33-year-old woman, Olufunmilayo Erioluwa, who was accused of assaulting a policeman and later freed by a court, has said she was made to suffer over a dog.

According to the hairstylist, she was unjustly detained and remanded in the Kirikiri Custodial Centre because the dog owner was connected to the police.

She was released on June 27 after 44 days in prison.

She expressed gratitude to a human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, and his legal team, saying she could have “died in detention having been traumatised by the incident.” Read more

LASG closes Eko Bridge for 24-hour immediate repairs (Channels)

The Lagos State Government has announced that Eko Bridge inwards the newly re-opened Apongbon Bridge will close for 24 hours on Sunday 16th July, 2023.

The closure is for immediate remedial palliative works by the Lagos State Public Works in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, according to the state government.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola made this statement known on Saturday, saying that the 24 hour closure will allow uninterrupted palliative adjustment of the bridge. Read more 

Nigeria fulfils 2023 financial obligation to African Union (Nation)

Nigeria has fulfilled its financial obligations to the African Union (AU) by making full payment of its assessed contributions for the year 2023.

The confirmation was made on Saturday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa, on the sidelines of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ambassador Lamuwa, in a statement issued by the State House Director of Information Abiodun Oladunjoye, explained that the payment demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to its responsibilities as an AU member-state. Read more

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol makes surprise visit to Ukraine (LBC)

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has made a surprise visit to Ukraine, offering an apparent show of support for the country in its war against Russia.

Mr Yoon’s office said he travelled to Ukraine with his wife, Kim Keon Hee, after trips to Lithuania for a Nato summit and to Poland.

It was his first visit since Russia invaded Ukraine almost 17 months ago.
