A Zimbabwean woman, identified as Amina, has killed herself and her two children after a fight with her husband.

Amina, 31, reportedly fed her two kids, a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 5, yoghurt laced with rat poison, and also took the poisoned yoghurt.

Their bodies were found in their rented room.

Amina wrote two notes, one to her husband, in which she told him that he was responsible for her death and the children’s. Read more

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, on Wednesday, said the command was yet to receive the much awaited toxicology report that was conducted on popular singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba also known as MohBad, three months after the singer’s death.

MohBad, 27, died on September 12, 2023, under a controversial circumstance and was buried the next day.

The nurse who administered a vaccine on him was arrested after she was found to be unlicensed.

Following public outcry, the police set up a panel to probe his death. His corpse was exhumed and some tests were carried out. Read more

Man remanded for alleged defilement of 15-year-old girl (Punch)

The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, on Tuesday, remanded a man Onyeka Mbaka in the Nigerian Correctional Centre for the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl.

Justice Rahman Oshodi made the remand order of the defendant after he was arraigned on a count of defilement preferred against him by the state government.

The prosecution counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, told the court that the defendant defiled the victim sometime in March 2023. Read more

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, has confirmed three separate fire incidents that occurred in the Territory, between 7:30 pm on Tuesday night and 4am on Wednesday morning.

The Head of Operations of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, while speaking to our correspondent via telephone on Wednesday, stated that men of the Fire Service had first responded to a distress call at a residential building behind the First Forty Hotel in Wuse 2 district of Abuja, before they were alerted to a fire outbreak at the Karmo Market at about midnight, and then the I.C World Emporium at 4am in the Gwarinpa Estate.

Appeal Court nullifies Rep Ukpong-Udo’s election, orders re-run (Channels)

Justice Abba Mohammed of the Court of Appeal Abuja has nullified the election of Honourable Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, a member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives.

The Appellate Court declared that the declaration and return of Ukpong-Udo by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was done in violation of clear provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of Election 2022 and Manual for Election Officials 2023.

The Tribunal had also ordered a supplementary election in the polling units where the election was not held in Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency. Election is to be conducted in 33 polling units in Ikono/ Ini Federal Constituency to determine the winner of the election in the Federal Constituency. Read more

United States (US) authorities will return $8.9million looted by state officials to acquire property in 2014 to the Nigerian government.

Royal Court in the US last Friday granted forfeiture of a “tainted property deposited into a Jersey bank account by Nigerian companies in 2014”, according to court documents.

“The Attorney General successfully demonstrated that the tainted property belonged to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the court documents disclosed that the property was acquired with “stolen” funds from Nigeria by “high-ranking officials within certain departments of the Nigerian Government in 2014.” Read more

The film, written and directed by Elijah Bynum, was set to be distributed by Searchlight Pictures, a subsidiary of Disney. However, in December, ‘‘Magazine Dreams’’ was removed from Disney’s release schedule.

A Mississippi slaughterhouse that supplies chicken to Chick-fil-A is directly to blame for the death of a 16-year-old worker who was sucked into equipment in July and killed within minutes, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday.

OSHA, an agency within the U.S. Labor Department, said that it had cited Georgia-based Mar-Jac Poultry for 14 serious violations and proposed more than $200,000 in fines.

“Mar-Jac Poultry is aware of how dangerous the machinery they use can be when safety standards are not in place to prevent serious injury and death. The company’s inaction has directly led to this terrible tragedy, which has left so many to mourn this child’s preventable death,” OSHA Regional Administrator Kurt Petermeyer said. Read more
