Lagos APC elders give Ambode cold shoulder (Vanguard)

Hope of a  second term for the politically embattled governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, remained far-fetched yesterday, after elders of the state under the aegis of the Governors Advisory Council, GAC gave him a cold shoulder. Police intercept suspected cultists, kill one in Lagos (Punch)

The police on Wednesday intercepted some suspected cultists/armed robbers at the Owode Onirin area of Lagos State and killed one of them. According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, police has been given a tip-off about the activity of the cultists, who had earlier killed one Sylvester Chikwendu, 32, suspected to be a rival cult member at Alapere. Accidental discharge kills two Nigerian soldiers (Guardian)

Two unnamed Nigerian soldiers were killed by an accidental discharge during a theatre training of the 192 Battalion in Gwoza on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army said in a statement. “We deeply regret to announce the death of 2 soldiers of 192 Battalion, who lost their lives as a result of an accidental discharge during in-theatre training today,” Army’s spokesman Brigadier General Texas Chukwu said in a statement. Girl, 9, shot dead as troops clear traffic (BBC)

Four soldiers have been arrested in Somalia after a nine-year-old schoolgirl was shot dead in the capital, Mogadishu, police say. Deqa Dahir died and another girl was wounded when bullets hit their school bus while it was stuck in a traffic jam, Amnesty International said. Staff, guard killed in Ekiti robbery (ThisDay)

Tenant arraigned over alleged beating of landlord’s wife, son (Guardian)

A 27-year-old tenant, Aliyu Mohammed, who allegedly assaulted landlord’s wife and his son was on Thursday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Mohammed, a businessman, residing in Dopemu area of Agege in Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and assault. The Prosecutor, ASP.
