The Governor Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State on Monday backed the direct primary adopted by the party. The 22-man council, which is the highest decision making organ of the party and headed by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said there would be a level-playing field for the three aspirants jostling for the governorship ticket of the party. The Federal Government, yesterday, disclosed that from next year, it would commence the revocation of the licences of oil companies that failed to stop flaring of gas in their operations in the country. Speaking at the 2018 Buyers’ Forum/Stakeholders’ Engagement organised by Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria, GACN, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, also stated that the Federal Government would launch the infrastructure revamp programme in November. Troops kill seven Boko Haram terrorists, rescue 73 hostages (ThisDay)

The Nigerian Army said yesterday night that seven Boko Haram terrorists have been killed by troops while 73 hostages have been rescued during two operations. The operations took place in Borno State. Benue SUBEB ex-boss jailed 12 years for embezzlement (Punch)

The Benue State High Court in Makurdi has sentenced a former Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, Anum Iho, to 12 years’ imprisonment for embezzling the funds meant for the training of teachers in the state. Iho was jailed alongside a former SUBEB official, Donald Anageende, who bagged seven years’ imprisonment. The court handed down the verdict last Thursday. Read more

NSCDC arrests 54 suspected oil thieves in Rivers (Punch)

No fewer than 54 suspected oil thieves have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State command. The security outfit also reportedly seized 12 trucks, three boats, two buses, one vessel, a car, and 170 drums of adulterated petroleum products. The NSCDC state Commandant, Mr Haruna Mohammed, while parading some of the suspects at the state command in Port Harcourt on Monday, said they were apprehended in different areas of Rivers State through the synergy with other security agencies. 12-yr-old girl, 2 others shot as violence erupts in Osogbo

Heavy gunshots rang out between the Police and suspected political thugs in Alekuwodo neighbourhood of Osogbo, yesterday, as battle for the control of one of the five polling units where re-run election is scheduled to hold on Thursday raged. Man, pregnant wife, brother die after eating poisoned food (Punch)

Three family members have reportedly died in their sleep in Bayelsa State after having a dinner suspected to have been poisoned. A filling station attendant, Abdulmalik Semiu, has been arrested for allegedly defrauding his employer.
