Lagos arraigns owner of Eti-osa collapsed building for contravention (Guardian)
Lagos State government has arraigned Kenneth Okenini before the Special Offences Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, for contravening the state’s building codes.
Okenini is the owner of a three-storey structure, which recently collapsed along Adesegun Okunuga Street in Ikate-Elegushi, Eti-Osa, Lagos. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate K.O Ogundare for various offences, including disobedience of an order by Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), in accordance with the law.
The arraignment followed an earlier warning issued by Lagos State government to owners and developers of property contravening the state’s building codes. Read more
Hospital services disrupted as resident doctors begin 5-day warning strike (Vanguard)
Hospital services in teaching hospitals nationwide were yesterday disrupted, following the five-day warning strike embarked upon by medical doctors, under the auspices of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD.
This is even as the National President of NARD, Dr Emeka Orji, accused federal government top officials of threatening members of the association with punitive measures, instead of addressing the germane issues raised by the association.
The medical doctors had declared a strike after the expiration of the ultimatum earlier issued to the federal government. Read more
FG orders immediate closure of Ijora-Olopa bridge (Channels)
The Federal Ministry of Works on Wednesday shut down Ijora-Olopa Bridge in Lagos State for the safety of the public over damage caused by vandals.
This was disclosed in a statement by Hakeem Bello, the spokesman for the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
Identifying the failed section as the Ijora-Olopa inward Ijora-Oloye–Apapa, Bello said the roads leading directly to the bridge such as Costain inward Eko Bridge and Carter Bridge descent inward Ijora Oloye had, as a result, been closed to traffic from Tuesday night. Read more
Lagos court remands lady for assaulting policeman (Punch)
A lady, Olufunmilayo Brioluwa, has been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly assaulting a police officer in the Ogombo area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development in a post on Twitter, said following the arraignment, Brioluwa was remanded to the Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
The post read, “Somewhere in Ogombo yesterday, she (Brioluwa) assaulted a police officer. She was arraigned today and has been remanded to the Kirikiri correctional facility till June 6 when the case comes up again in court.” Read more

Barely two months after losing out in the Delta State Governorship election, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, declared that he won the election clean and clear and that he would retrieve his stolen mandate from the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , had in the election conducted on March 18, 2023 , declared Oborevwori of PDP as winner with 360,234 votes, which was over 120, 000 votes above 240,229 votes reportedly scored by Senator Omo-Agege in the election.
But Omo-Agege while granting audience to some of his constituents from Delta Central at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, said the result declared by INEC was a ruse that cannot stand the test of litigation. Read more

Eleven years on, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, held its special combined convocation ceremony, where about 28,000 from 2010 2021 sets graduated. At the special ceremony, outgoing governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, announced the conversion of the polytechnic to university, and a N500 million take-off grant.
The Rector, Dr. Hagler Okorie, an associate professor of law, said convocation is an integral part of academic rituals, which gives credence to the graduating students.

An Ohio plastic surgeon accused of livestreaming patients’ procedures online won’t likely learn the fate of her medical license until July.
Dr. Katharine Roxanne Grawe – known to her thousands of social media followers as Dr. Roxy – has not been allowed to practice medicine since last fall and is fighting in hearings this week to keep state regulators from yanking her credentials for good.
The State Medical Board of Ohio voted on Nov. 18 to suspend Grawe’s medical license after “clear and convincing” evidence arose that her continued practice presented “a danger of immediate and serious harm to the public.” Grawe also is being sued by at least four women who say they faced complications after their surgeries. Eddie Murphy is readying his magnifying glass, as the actor is in talks to star as Inspector Clouseau in MGM’s upcoming “Pink Panther” film, Variety has confirmed.
The reboot of the classic property will be directed by Sonic the Hedgehog filmmaker Jeff Fowler. Chris Bremner (Bad Boys for Life, The Man From Toronto) is writing the script, while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce via their Rideback banner.
“The Pink Panther” franchise began with the 1963 comedy film starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Sellers would go on to reprise the role in 1964’s A Shot in the Dark, 1975’s The Return of the Pink Panther, 1976’s The Pink Panther Strikes Again and 1978’s Revenge of the Pink Panther. Formula 1 has canceled this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix because of heavy flooding in the northern Italian region, citing safety concerns.
At least eight people have been killed by heavy flooding and mudslides in the region with more than 13,000 residents being forced to evacuate, according to local authorities.

Two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek retired in the third set of her Italian Open quarterfinal against Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina because of a right thigh injury.
It was 2-2 in the third when the top-ranked Swiatek retired after more than two hours of play. She had won the first set 6-2, then Rybakina won the second set 7-6 (3).
