The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday described the murder of Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, first son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Oba Tijani Akinloye, as one too many.

The House urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to urgently commence investigation into the incident with the goal of ensuring justice for the bereaved family.

According to a press statement by Mr. Eromosele Ebhomele, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, theHouse, which observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased, also resolved to send a letter of condolence to the Ojomu royal family. Read more 

Man kills neighbour, son over environmental sanitation in Lagos (Vanguard)

The Police Command in Lagos State says it has detained a man (names withheld), for allegedly killing his neighbour and her son over an environmental sanitation dispute in the Lekki area of the state.

The command Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on. Monday in Lagos.

He said that the incident happened on Saturday about 10:50p.m. and an investigation was ongoing to ascertain what the suspect  used to perpetrate the crime. Read more 

Presidency denies Bishop Kukah’s claim on Tinubu’s peace accords (Nation)

The Presidency has countered Bishop Matthew Kukah’s assertion that President Bola Tinubu did not sign a peace accord during his presidential campaign.

Kukah, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, speaking on Sunday during the Edo Election Townhall meeting in Benin, asserted that prior to the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu did not sign the peace accord.

However, in reaction to this claim by Bishop Kukah, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified that Tinubu signed two peace accords ahead of the 2023 election. Read more

Troops kill 4 bandits in Kaduna (Channels)

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the troops encountered the bandits in the Alawa and Kwaga general areas of Birnin Gwari and immediately engaged them in a fierce gun battle, during which two of the criminals were neutralized.

The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, three motorcycles and one Baofeng Radio from the bandits. Read more

Kano State government, Tuesday, presented four witnesses to testify against arsonist Shafiu Abubakar before an Upper Sharia court sitting in the state.

The Prosecution counsel and the Director Public Prosecution (DPP) Kano State Ministry of Justice, Salisu Tahir, presented the witnesses when the matter came up before the court.

The Kano State government had dragged Abubakar, 38-year-old to court on four count charges bordering on culpable homicide, attempted murder, causing grievous hurt and mischief by fire. Read more

Vice President Kashim Shettima has promised to meet with key stakeholders in resolving the bureaucratic challenges denying Nigerian airline, Air Peace, landing rights at Heathrow Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports by passenger traffic.

“It is diplomacy. There is no quarrel, and the Vice President has vowed to meet with his colleagues (on the matter),” founder and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace Limited, Allen Onyema, told State House Correspondents after the second leg of meetings between Shettima and Airline Operators of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York accuse Combs of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The indictment accuses Combs, 54, along with members of his security and household staff, personal assistants and other associates in his businesses, of “creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.” Read more

Simple Minds band member Kenny Hyslop has died at the age of 73. His cause of death has not been confirmed, but according to The Sun the drummer was in ill health.

Fans and musicians have paid tributes to the Scottish drummer, who was featured on the song “Promised You a Miracle”. Kenny also appeared in the music video for “Love Song” and “Sweat in Ballet.”

Hezbollah blames Israel after pager explosions kill 9 in Lebanon (BBC)

Nine people, including a child, have been killed after handheld pagers used by members of the armed group Hezbollah to communicate exploded across Lebanon, the country’s health minister says.

Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon was among 2,800 other people who were wounded by the simultaneous blasts in Beirut and several other regions.

Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, said the pagers belonged “to employees of various Hezbollah units and institutions” and confirmed the deaths of eight fighters. Read more

A Liverpool fan was knocked down and killed in Italy where he had gone to watch his team play in the Champions League.

Philip Dooley, 51, from Liverpool, was struck by a vehicle in Bergamo in the early hours of Tuesday, Merseyside Police have said.

Unified heavyweight world champion Usyk is due in London this week ahead of Anthony Joshua’s world title fight with Daniel Dubois at Wembley on Saturday night. But a video was released on social media of the Ukrainian being placed in handcuffs by police in the Polish city of Krakov.

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has criticized Tyreek Hill’s conduct during his recent detainment by police before a Miami Dolphins game.

Hill was pulled from his car near the team’s Hard Rock Stadium less than three hours before kickoff of Miami’s Week 1 game. 

The Super Bowl winner was placed on the ground and handcuffed, and teammate Calais Campbell – who drove by the scene and stopped in an effort to play peacemaker – also was handcuffed by police during the incident. Read more
