Lagos Assembly Tasks Sanwo-Olu On Protection Of Local Traders (Independent)

The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to direct the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Lola Akande, to come up with strategies to protect the local traders.

The lawmakers, who stated this Monday’s plenary session, while debating on a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, titled, ‘Need to Protect Local Marketers and Entrepreneurs in the State’, also called for the enforcement of the Lagos State Market Advisory Council Law.

The House also took the decision to review the Lagos State Market Advisory Council Law with a view to upgrading it and make the law conform to current realties. Read more

Senate observes one minute silence in honour of Mobolaji Johnson (Nation)

The Senate on Tuesday observed a minute silence in honour of the late former military General of Lagos State, Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson.

The Senate also resolved to send a powerful delegation to commiserate with the family of the deceased.

These resolutions followed a point of order on a matter of urgent national importance moved by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on the floor of the Senate.

Senator Tinubu, representing Lagos Central, in her lead debate, eulogized the late Johnson saying he contributed immensely to the development of Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general. Read more

The Director, Federal Highways, Southwest,Mr. Funsho Adebiyi has solicited for the cooperation of transport unions in ensuring the evacuation of trucks parked around the Ogere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, obstructing reconstruction works on the highway.

Adebiyi made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) project yard on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Read more

Wadume: Slain cops’ colleagues decry delay in soldiers’ trial (DailyTrust) Wadume Colleagues of policemen killed during the arrest of a kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume in Taraba State, have decried the delay in the prosecution of the suspects, three months after the killings. Inspector Mark Ediale, Sergeants Usman Danzumi and Dahiru Musa and two civilians, were killed during a confrontation with soldiers along Ibi-Jalingo road in Taraba State on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.

Daily Trust reports that the two remaining corpses of the slain cops were interred on October 23, 13 days after the three other victims were buried in Abuja.

Hoodlums attack Satellite Town, destroy warehouse, others (Punch)

Hoodlums, said to number over 100, on Saturday attacked residents of Satellite Town in Lagos State, and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

The hoodlums were said to have demanded millions of naira from shop owners and landlords to renew their ownership of the properties.

It was learnt that the shop owners and landlords refused to pay the money, which the hoodlums, who were said to be led by a community leader, demanded from them. Read more

FG blames medical tourism on health workers’ poor attitude (DailyTrust)

The Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, says medical tourism is not necessarily an outcome of lack of medical equipment, but encompasses a whole lot of things such as lack of conducive environment and “poor attitude” of health workers towards health care delivery. Cultists kill 13 students in Kogi varsity (Punch)

No fewer than 13 students of the Kogi State University, Ayingba, have been hacked down by unidentified assailants suspected to be members of a secret cult.

The killings, our correspondent gathered, were reprisals carried out by one of the cults whose leader, a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was murdered by another cult linked to the university.

According to an eye witness account, the KSU  killings started last Friday when nine students, including a 200 level female student and her boyfriend,  were hacked down on the campus and at different points within the host community. Read more

Nine US citizens, including children, killed in Mexico attack on Mormons (BBC)

At least nine US citizens, three women and six children, have been killed in an attack by suspected drug cartel gunmen in northern Mexico.

The victims are members of the LeBaron family, linked to a breakaway Mormon community that settled in Mexico several decades ago.

The victims were travelling in a convoy of vehicles.

The security minister said the group could have been targeted accidentally as a result of mistaken identity. Read more

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has moved up the ladder from a Bronze Label marathon to a Silver Label marathon, less than five years after its maiden edition.

Olukayode Thomas, Head Communications and Media, said the good news was conveyed to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon by IAAF Head of Road Races Alessio Punzi.

Liverpool Carabao Cup tie with Aston Villa unchanged despite Fifa Club World Cup clash (BBC)

Liverpool will field different teams in two separate competitions within 24 hours after the EFL announced the date of their Carabao Cup quarter-final with Aston Villa will not be changed.

The Reds will play at Villa on 17 December and will compete in the Fifa Club World Cup in Qatar the following day.

Manager Jurgen Klopp had ruled out the prospect of playing both fixtures.
