The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Kingsley Otti, a club bouncer, for allegedly stabbing a suspected hoodlum to death during an altercation at a lounge on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, as confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement obtained on Wednesday.
Otti reportedly attacked the victim during a confrontation in the club’s car park. The injured man became unconscious and was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Read more

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun on Wednesday said cybercrime poses significant threats to national security.
Egbetokun said this while declaring open the maiden Nigerian Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF NCCC) 2024 Cybersecurity Week with the theme “Secure Our World”.
Represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Bala Ciroma, the IG said cybercrime is not a mere technical issue but a matter of national security that requires immediate attention. Read more
Customs officer tackles Lagos taskforce for alleged N200k extortion (Punch)
An officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, who identified himself simply as Cyril, has accused officials of the Lagos State Task Force of causing damage to his car at Liverpool in the Apapa area of Lagos State.
Speaking to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, Cyril said the incident happened while he was returning from his place of work on Tuesday.
He said he was driving inward the Mile 2 area and on getting to the Warehouse Road junction, he discovered that he could no longer proceed as the road was closed down with some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority manning the point. Read more
Only 15% property owners have approvals – Lagos govt (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Government has disclosed that only 15 per cent of property owners in the state have building approvals, while only 75 per cent have complied with the physical planning laws.
This comes as the state government is set to review the urban developmental plans to meet infrastructure demand while creating opportunities for stakeholders to take advantage of investments at the maiden Physical Planning Summit.
The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, and his Information and Strategy counterpart, Gbenga Omotoso, stated this during a media briefing on Wednesday, at Alausa, Ikeja, to herald the Physical Planning Summit scheduled to take place on October 15 and 16 at Victoria Island, Lagos, where stakeholders are to brainstorm on ways to chart a better course for the state development. NAFDAC destroys N10bn fake, expired drugs (DailyTrust)
The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake, expired and substandard drugs worth over N10 billion.
Director General of the agency, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed this on Wednesday in Gombe.
She said the products were confiscated by NAFDAC officials from manufacturers, importers and distributors in the six states of the Northeast geo-political zone. Read more

UNICAL suspends lecturer over alleged alteration of exam scripts (Leadership)
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended its Head of the Pharmacology Department, Dr. Joseph Akpan, over accusations of tampering with examination results for ‘Introduction to General Antimicrobial Pharmacology’ course (PHM 311).
UNICAL Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, confirmed the suspension, stating that Akpan allegedly manipulated scores on 235 out of 242 exam scripts, even awarding marks to two students who did not take part in the examination.
Prof. Obi described the extent of the misconduct, noting that only five scripts were left untouched. She disclosed, “The remaining scripts were allegedly tampered with, including giving marks to two students who did not sit the examination.” Read more

Sean “Diddy” Combs wants to go to trial on sex trafficking charges next spring, the embattled hip-hop mogul’s lawyers informed a judge Wednesday.
“Mr. Combs continues to assert his right to a speedy trial and intends to request a trial date in April or May 2025, and as consistent with the Court’s trial schedule,” the jailed rapper’s lawyers wrote.
Combs was charged last month with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution in a sweeping indictment by the Southern District of New York. He is currently awaiting trial behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Read more

After sweeping the Oscars with his smash hit Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan looks to be returning to the studio that helped him win those Oscars, and he’s bringing along one of his A-list stars to lead the ensemble.
Sources tell Deadline that Nolan is returning to Universal for his next film, with plans for an Imax release on July 17, 2026, and that Matt Damon is in talks to star. The date falls in line with a number of Nolan films that have had similar release dates in the past.

The series starred Mindy Kaling and was based on the beloved Scooby-Doo character. Season 2 of the show debuted back in April. The series served as a prequel to Scooby-Doo, with Velma and the other members of Mystery Inc. as high school students solving mysteries in the town of Crystal Cove.

Japan’s government has admitted an official photo of its new cabinet was manipulated to make members look less unkempt after online speculation that it had been edited.
Photos taken by local media showed the new prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, and his defence minister with small patches of white shirt showing under their suits.

The Indian business tycoon and former Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata has died, aged 86.
Tata, who had headed India’s largest conglomerate for over 20 years, had been receiving intensive care at Mumbai hospital, according to Reuters.
He was famous for making large acquisitions, including buying the British tea firm Tetley in 2000 for $432m and the Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus in 2007 for $13bn, which at the time was an unprecedented takeover of a foreign firm by an Indian company. On Thursday, tournament director Craig Tiley declared the injured star will be on court in Melbourne, saying: ‘The one we’re keeping an eye on will be Nick Kyrgios – Nick will be back.’

McIlroy to take part in PGA v LIV showdown in December (RTE)
Rory McIlroy is one of four superstars from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will tee off 17 December in Las Vegas in what has been dubbed The Showdown.
The exhibition match will pit Scottie Scheffler and McIlroy on the PGA side against LIV golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. All four are multiple major winners, but the LIV golfers have limited opportunities to gain rankings points.
The event will be held at Shadow Creek Golf Course. That course hosted the first version of The Match – the predecessor to The Showdown – between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods and potentially could host as many as 5,000 fans for the December event.
