A non-governmental organisation, the Centre for Social Justice Advocacy (CSJA) has reacted to the conviction of four Nigerians in the United Kingdom over fake marriage certificates, describing it as injustice and racism.
LEADERSHIP reports that four Nigerians – Abraham Alade Olarotimi Onifade, 41; Abayomi Aderinsoye Shodipo, 38; Nosimot Mojisola Gbadamosi, 31, and 54-year-old Adekunle Kabir – were all convicted and sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday.
They were sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison after being convicted of procuring over 2,000 fake marriage certificates to support the applications of Nigerian citizens seeking to remain in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme. Read more
Tricycle riders protest fuel price hike in Delta (DailyTrust)
Tricycle riders took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against fuel price hikes, disrupting business activities and vehicular movement in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The protesters, who are heavily reliant on fuel for their operations, blocked major junctions including the Deco Road Junction, First-Marine Gate Junction and the popular Hausa Quarters, Igbudu, causing significant disruption to both vehicular movement and local business activities.

Fresh attacks claim lives in Plateau communities (Vanguard)
Fresh attacks on Tuesday night in the Daffo and Kwatas communities of Bokkos local government area of Plateau State have claimed not less than seven lives, sources say.
Natives had gone on many social media platforms calling for assistance to repel the attackers whom they say were lurking around the communities in the evening of Tuesday. They succeeded in carrying out the attacks at about 7 pm.
The Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom said at the time of this report that he was awaiting details of the incident before he could comment. Gunmen have reportedly shot a security guard at the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The attack which was reportedly carried out at midnight comes less than a month after the party’s secretariat in the New GRA of Port Harcourt was bombed.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder after four people were killed “execution-style” in a mass shooting on a train in Chicago on Labor Day.
Rhanni Davis, 30, from Chicago, was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Margaret Miller, 64, and three men including Simeon Bihesi, 28, and Adrian Collins, 60.

A Russian missile strike has killed over 40 people in Ukrainian city of Poltava (NPR)
Two Russian ballistic missiles struck a military training facility and nearby hospital in a central-eastern region of Ukraine, killing at least 41 people and wounding 180 others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday.
The strike occurred in the city of Poltava, the capital of the region of the same name, officials said. Poltava is located about 350 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Kyiv. The city is on the main highway and rail route between Kyiv and Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, which is close to the Russian border.
The strike appeared to be one of the deadliest carried out by Russian forces since the war began more than 900 days ago on Feb. 24, 2022. Read more

Usain Bolt was left in utter disbelief after learning about Oscar Pistorius killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius was a global Paralympic icon with six gold medals to his name and had etched his name in history as the first double-leg amputee participant in the Olympics at London 2012.
