Lagos City Cycling Grand Prix: 2000 West African riders sign up (Vanguard)

At least over 2000 cyclists from Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin Republic, and Nigeria are expected to participate at the maiden Lagos City Cycling Grand Prix (LCCGP) 1.0 billed to hold in Lagos between 18th and 19th of January next year.

The two-day event, the organizers, Shonga Africana Limited believe would serve as a catalyst to the development of cycling as a sporting event using Lagos as a focal point and stimulating the interest of the populace towards cycling as a pleasurable fun activity, for fitness and as an option for urban transportation as in some advanced cities like Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and Beijing.

According to the Managing Director of Shonga Africana Limited, Daniel Anyankah the goal is to ensure the LCCGP becomes a world-class event such as the Tour de France and to obtain UCI – Union Cycliste Internationale (Cycling World Governing body) accreditation for the event. Read more
