Police reveals identities of Kolade Johnson’s suspected shooters (Guardian)
The Nigerian Police Force has revealed the identity of its men complicit in the killing of a Nigerian youth Kolade Johnson during a raid in his neighbourhood in Mangoro area of Lagos. Johnson was hit by a stray bullet shot by the men of Anti-Cultism Squad on Sunday while watching the English Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham. The Nigerian police Tuesday said Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan and Sergeant Godwin Orji were “suspected to have carried out the shooting.” Read more
Drug trafficking: FG says execution of Nigerian woman in Saudi Arabia, pathetic (Punch)
The Presidency said on Tuesday that the execution of a Nigerian woman over drug-related offence on Monday in Saudi Arabia was pathetic and tragic. The Nigerian woman was among four persons executed by the Saudi authorities on Monday, according to that country’s Interior Ministry. The others were two Pakistani men and a Yemeni man. Saudi Arabia has executed 53 people this year alone over such offences. Read more

Two burnt to death as Hilux vehicle collides with fuel tanker on Bauchi-Jos Road (Punch)
Two people have been burnt to death and several others critically injured in a ghastly accident along Bauchi-Jos road on Tuesday. The PUNCH learnt that Tuesday’s accident was caused when a Hilux vehicle had a head-on collision with a petrol tanker and in the process, caught fire. Tragedy as four die inside well in Kogi (Punch)
Four persons have lost their lives in Kabba, Kogi State when the wall of a well collapsed on them. Spokesman for Kogi Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police William Aya, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the victims were labourers engaged by a woman to renovate the well. Aya, who spoke to NAN on phone, gave the names of the victims as Kayode Ayeni, Niyi Jimoh, Olusanmi Sunday and Ayo Sunday. Read more
Fire razes houses, shops in Calabar (Punch)
Fire razed six houses and four shops on Eyo Edem Street near Watt market in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State in the early hours of Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said the fire broke out around 2:30 am on Tuesday. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. One of the eyewitnesses, Enoh Edet, told our correspondent that an electrical surge that occurred overnight could have caused the outbreak. He added that no life was lost. Read more
EU denies claim of funding Eritrea ‘forced labour’ project (BBC)
Eritrean human rights activists have accused the EU of funding a scheme in Eritrea that uses “forced labour”. The EU is backing a road-building project as part of its programme to stem migration from Africa into Europe. Boeing must perform more work on a proposed fix to its 737 MAX aircraft before it can be submitted for review, US officials said Monday, suggesting the planes could stay grounded a while longer. Additional work is needed “to ensure that Boeing has identified and appropriately addressed all pertinent issues,” a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said in a statement. “The FAA will not approve the software for installation until the agency is satisfied with the submission,” he added. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party is contesting the slim opposition victory in the country’s biggest city, Istanbul. Sunday’s municipal elections also delivered opposition CHP wins in the capital, Ankara, and in Izmir. The AKP alleges irregularities, and is challenging the results in every Istanbul district. Officially the CHP is ahead by 25,000 votes in the city. Giant AKP victory posters have gone up in Istanbul. The secularist CHP (Republican People’s Party) condemned that move, accusing the Islamist-rooted AKP of trying to steal the result. Read more
Iran orders evacuations in Khuzestan amid flood risk (BBC)
Iran has ordered the evacuation of about 70 villages in the south-western province of Khuzestan due to a growing risk of floods, state media report. At least 45 people have died in the past two weeks after heavy rains, with flooding affecting at least 23 of the country’s 31 provinces. The orders come as Foreign Minister Javad Zarif accused US sanctions of impeding aid efforts to affected areas. “This isn’t just economic warfare; it’s economic terrorism,” Mr Zarif tweeted. Apple cuts iPhone prices in China (CNN)
The prices of iPhones in China are falling thanks to a tax cut that took effect Monday. Apple cut the prices on iPhones, iPads and other products on its official Chinese website The cuts followed a three percentage-point drop in the rate of value-added (sales) tax that kicked in on April 1, according to state-run news agency Xinhua Apple (AAPL) reduced the price of some products, such as the iPhone XS, by even more than the 3% tax cut. The latest 64GB iPhone XS now costs 8,199 yuan ($1,220), making it 500 yuan ($74), or 5.8%, cheaper for Chinese buyers. The iPhone XR dropped in price by 300 yuan ($45), or 4.6%. Read more

A woman knifed a bus driver eight times at a house party after he refused to apologise for chatting to her girlfriend, a court has heard. Armani Afia, 21, is accused of stabbing Jade Campbell-Jack in the garden of a flat in Richborough House, Peckham, in the early hours of September 22 last year. The defendant, of Weeding Road, Camden, allegedly became enraged after Mr Campbell-Jack struck up a conversation with a woman she claimed was her girlfriend and refused to apologise. Read more
Daphne Dunne: Australian Prince Harry superfan dies at 99 (BBC)
A woman who possibly was Australia’s biggest fan of the British royals has died at the age of 99, just days after receiving a birthday card from Prince Harry and his wife Meghan. Daphne Dunne passed away peacefully on Monday, her family said. She featured heavily in Harry’s Australia trips and has pictures on Instagram of several encounters with the prince in recent years. The widow said she’d had “a very special friendship” with the prince. Just days ago, she received a birthday card from the couple. Read more
