Jobless man jailed two years for stealing guards’ phone, clothes (Nation)

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Thursday sentenced to two years imprisonment, a homeless man, who was caught wearing a shirt and using a smartphone he stole from a firm’s security guards.

Francis Abu, 27, was brought to court by the Maroko Police Station on June 1 after he was apprehended by the owners of the items at Marwa Bus Stop, Lekki, Lagos.

Magistrate K. K. Awoyinka convicted Abu following his guilty plea to a five-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of the peace. Read more

 

Armed robber raped me using ‘polybag’ as protection, says teacher (Nation)

A Lagos Catholic Secondary School teacher, has narrated before an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how an armed robber raped her in her home using a polythene bag as protection.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the teacher was on Tuesday giving evidence during the trial of two men in their 20s – Babatunde Oluwaleke and Daniel Ojo – for alleged rape and armed robbery.

While being led in evidence by Mr Akin George, the lead prosecuting counsel for the state, the teacher gave a harrowing account of how she was allegedly raped in her home by Oluwaleke on March 6, last year. Read more

 

Man chops off 11-year-old boy’s wrist in Lagos (Punch)

A 61-year-old man, Jeremiah Obifor, on Friday, June 7, 2019, chopped off the wrist of an 11-year-old boy, Goodluck Amaechi, as the machete narrowly missed the victim’s neck and landed on his right wrist.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim and three of his friends went fishing in a canal at the back of Isha Ibrahim Street in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State around 12.20pm when the incident happened.

Since Thursday and Friday of last week were declared as mid-term break by most schools in Lagos, it was gathered that pupils with adventurous minds engaged in activities that excited them during the period. Read more

 

Police arraign 11 suspected cultists for alleged murder (Nation)

Eleven suspected cultists were on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged murder.

They were Adeniyi Bamgbala, 23; Rufia Adewale, 35; Gbenga Kolawale, 20; Waheed Salami, 20; Rilwan Okegbenro, 20; and Abiodun Jaiyesimi, 20; Femi Osifeso, 26; Abiodun Alegunleye, 20; Mohammed Sanni, 23; Sunday Vincent, 22; and Olatunji Ojo, 20.

They were charged with conspiracy and murder but their plea was not taken. Read more

 

How divorcee defiled two minors in Lagos (Nation)

A 40-year-old divorcee, Adebowale Ajayi, who allegedly defiled two girls was on Thursday in Lagos remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

When the case was mentioned, the Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, did not take the plea of the defendant.

Osunsanmi ordered that he be kept behind bars pending the receipt of legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs). Read more

 

Businessman ‘sells’ counterfeit gold for N650,000 (Nation)

A 33-year-old businessman, Abdulahi Abubakar, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged N650,000 fraud.

Abubakar was alleged to have sold a counterfeit necklace to Tijani Jubril for N650,000 knowing the necklace was not genuine.

Abubakar is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing before Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat. Read more

 

Community accuses Lagos hotelier of leading hoodlums to attack (Punch)

The residents of Ijero/Shonola area, Apapa Road, Ebute Meta West in Lagos State have accused a hotelier, Olayemi Olorunishola, of leading hoodlums to attack a guard, Yemi Owonikoko, and two of his colleagues in the community.

It was gathered that the hotelier allegedly took the decision around 1am on Sunday after he was reportedly locked out by two guards hired to protect the community.

Some residents told our correspondent that locking of the gate to the community had been an issue between the residents and the hotelier for some time. Read more

 

Teacher accused of forging uncle’s property titles (Nation)

A 45-year-old teacher, Temitope Ogunlolu, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging her uncle’s house documents.

The police also charged Ogunlolu with conducting herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by forcefully and unlawfully displaying “Not for Sale” on her uncle’s apartments.

She pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge. Read more

 

20-year-old allegedly robs motorcyclist at gunpoint (Punch)

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday remanded a 20-year-old man, Babangida Sanni, who allegedly robbed a motorcyclist at gunpoint.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, ordered that Sanni should be kept at the Badagry Prison.

The court could not take the plea of the defendant as Hotepo said he needed advice from the state director of public prosecutions. Read more

Court remands man for alleged murder, burning of body (Nation)

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday ordered that a man, Idris Mohammed, who allegedly killed a man and burnt his body to be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered that he be remanded in Ikoyi Prison, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Cook steals ex-lawmaker’s N8m Jewellery (Nation)

A 34-year-old cook, Mathew Gouda, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing pieces of Jewellery valued at $27,000 (about N8.2 million) from a former member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs Funmi Tejuosho.

Gouda was arraigned on one count charge of stealing before Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benson Emuerhi said the defendant committed the offence on May 31, at 8.30 p.m. at Sasegbon Street, GRA, Ikeja. Read more
