Police arrest 25 suspected cultists in Lagos (Punch)

Personnel of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 25 suspected cultists in Ijora, Mushin and Bariga areas of the state and recovered firearms from them.

It was learnt that the operatives of the Operation Crush from the Anti-Cultism Unit arrested one Olaitan Rilwan, 20, with an automatic pistol hidden in his bag.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, stated that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aiye Confraternity. Read more

 

Beggar docked for harassing, assaulting pedestrians (Nation)

A 20-year-old beggar, Rasheed Oloyede, on Monday appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly assaulting and harassing pedestrians.

The police charged Oloyede, with conspiracy, harassment, stealing and engaging in cult activities.

He, however, pleaded not guilty. Read more

 

Two cops nabbed for killing father of four (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested the two policemen involved in the shooting to death of a father of four, Daudu Waliu.

It was gathered that Waliu was killed by a stray bullet from the gun of one of the cops on Sunday in the Ladipo area of Oshodi.

The father of four, who was into rentals, was said to have gone to pack some chairs he rented out to a Celestial Church of Christ, which celebrated its annual harvest in the area, when he was hit by a stray bullet. Read more

 

Applicant arraigned for alleged bicycle theft (Nation)

A 21-year-old applicant, Akeem Alatise, at the weekend appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged theft of a bicycle worth N20,000.

Alatise, who lives at Tolisho Street, Ogudu, a Lagos suburb, is facing a one-count charge of stealing, but he pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Inspector Donjor Perezi alleged that the defendant committed the offence at 11.20pm, at 31, Ezobi Street, Alapere Ketu, Lagos. Read more

 

Two vehicle ‘brainbox’ thieves apprehended in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects, who specialise in vandalising vehicles and stealing their Engine Control Units (popularly called brainboxes in Nigeria).

The suspects, Sodiq Musa, 28, and Saidu Atiku, 34, were arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad at No. 27 Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja, with three Toyota vehicle ECUs, while the third suspect, Ridwan Adamu, escaped with the fourth ECU.

In his confessional statement to the RRS operatives, Musa told the officers that Atiku, a security guard working for a company located on that street where they were arrested, had earlier in the day called Adamu, the leader of the team, to come and steal from the vehicles belonging to the company, which were parked outside the premises. Businessman arraigned for allegedly stealing N1.8m (Nation)

A 57-year-old businessman, Ikechukwu Nwanyaku, on Tuesday appeared at a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ajegunle, Lagos, for allegedly stealing 5,000 U.S. dollars (about N1.8million) from a trader.

The police charged Nwanyaku, who lives at Ojo, Lagos, with three counts of assault with intent to steal, causing grievous hurt and theft.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. Read more

 

Two nabbed for robbing LCDA boss, two others (Punch)

The police have arrested a driver, Alex Andrew, for allegedly robbing the Chairman of the Oriade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Ramotalai Hassan, and two others, Rasak Oloyede and Adamo Amao, in the Satellite Town area of the state.

Andrew’s accomplice, Ejiro Edoh, was also arrested for buying one of the phones stolen from the vicitms.

It was gathered that Andrew, alongside his other gang members, used short guns and iron chains to rob the victims while in traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway by the Dantata junction, Satellite Town, on May 16, 2019, around 8.40pm, and stole valuables and money worth N9m. Read more

 

Man faces theft charge (Nation)

A man, Sylvester Sunday, who allegedly stole a television set and a stabilizer worth N82,000 from a shop on the pretext of buying items there, appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, at the weekend.

Sunday, 21, who lives at Kayode Alabi Street, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
