Court remands two for ‘sale of substandard gas cylinders’ (Nation)

A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded two businessmen, Emmanuel Anthony Nnan and John Paul Ejike, in prison custody for alleged importation and sale of substandard gas cylinders.

The duo were remanded in prison after their arraignment alongside their company – Star Master Electrical Co. Ltd by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

They are to remain in custody pending the perfection of the N50 million bail granted them by the court. Read more

Court remands friends for allegedly gang raping 21-year–old woman (Punch)

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that two friends, Samson Shittu, 25, and Ramoni Animashaun, 24, who allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman, be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

The Chief Magistrate, P.E. Nwaka, did not take the plea of the defendants.

Nwaka ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. Read more

Man forced to load garbage into his car after getting caught disposing waste on highway (Guardian)

The police and officials of the Environmental Health Officer of the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Monday caught a man dumping refuse on the road median in Ejigbo.

As punishment for his improper act, he was made to clear all the refuse at that spot into his car and led the officers to his house to dump the waste in front of his building while he was also asked to explain his nefarious act to his neighbours.

He was made to keep the refuse within his premises and asked to seek the assistance of an assigned waste operator to remove the refuse and register the premised for patronage. Read more

How Lagos hotelier’s son, friend drugged, gang-raped me –Victim (Punch)

A 24-year-old rape victim on Wednesday narrated to a Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja how she was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by the son of a Lagos hotelier, Don-Chima George, and his friend, Olusegun Rasak.

PUNCH Metro had reported that George, the son of the owner of the Dallankester Hotels, and Rasak were arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly drugging and raping the victim in the Lekki Phase 1 area of the state.

The suspects had allegedly laced the victim’s drink with a substance that made her weak and took her to the hotel, where she was repeatedly raped and videotaped. Read more

Student sentenced to death for killing younger brother (Guardian)

Justice Raliat Adebiyi of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday sentenced a 33-year-old student, Allen Abiodun, of the University of Abuja to death for killing his younger brother, one Allen Wale, with a broken bottle.

After six years of murder trial, the judge found him guilty and convicted him of murder charge brought against him by the Lagos State government. His offence was contrary to Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The judge held that the prosecution proved its case of murder beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant. She found the defendant guilty and convicted of the murder of his brother. “You, Allen Abiodun, is hereby sentenced to death. May God, the giver of life, have mercy on you,” she said. Read more

Two burglars who jumped bail rearrested, jailed (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has rearrested two burglars – Wale Hassan, 24 and Niyi Ademolu, 34 – in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Hassan, who had been granted bail by an Ijede Magistrates’ Court, Ikorodu, was rearrested by the police in a case of theft.

Ademolu, who was also on bail, was reported to have stopped going to court as he escaped for more than one year. Read more

Driver in court for assaulting stepdaughters (Nation)

A driver, Abraham Joseph, 35, who was accused of sexually assaulting his two stepdaughters, on Wednesday appeared at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The girls are aged 9 and 12.

Prosecuting Inspector Christopher John said the defendant committed the offence on May 5, at noon, at his home. Read more

Customer sues tailor for damaging his clothes (Punch)

A 41-year-old tailor, Monday Udor, on Tuesday, appeared in an Ajegunle Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging a customer’s clothes worth N10,000.

The defendant, who resides at No 2, Kudaisi St., Olodi Apapa,, Lagos, is facing one count of malicious damage, the allegation to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that one Mr. Ugo Friday took his clothing material to the defendant’s shop for sewing on April 4, but Udor did not return it as at when due. Read more

Businessman charged with slapping estate manager (Nation)

A businessman, Jide Filani, yesterday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slapping a man.

He pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of assault.

Prosecuting Sergeant Ishola Samuel alleged that Filani committed the offence last December 10 at his home. Read more

Woman in court for allegedly stabbing another with broken bottle (Punch)

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 34-year-old woman, Kehinde Adesanya, in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing another woman with a broken bottle.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Adesanya, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of assault occasioning harm, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant. Mary Ajiteru told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 8, at 8:30 pm at No. 72 Isawo Road, Owutu, Agric. area of Ikorodu. Read more

Ex-convicts, other arrested for robbery in Lagos (Nation)

Men of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested two ex-convicts and one other suspect for alleged robbery in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects, Emmanuel Michael, Mohammed Abubakar and Simeon Michael, allegedly robbed a 25-year-old woman in Lekki Phase I on Monday, May 6, 2019.

It was learnt that the men were arrested by a patrol team after the victim called for help. Read more
