Two nabbed for snatching Taxify driver’s car in Lagos (Punch)

Two suspects, Daniel Abah, 27, and Edwin Edache, 31, have been arrested by the police for allegedly attacking a Taxify driver, Alfred Moses, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, and dispossessing him of his Toyota Corolla car.

According to the police, the suspects, both from Otukpo, Benue State, boarded the complainant’s car as passengers on the Lekki-Epe Expressway and asked him to convey them to the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state sometime last month.

Midway into the trip, the suspects allegedly announced to the driver that they were robbers and that he should park the car and hand over the key to them or else they would kill him. Read more

 

Seven suspected cultists charged with robbery (Nation)

Seven suspected cultists, who allegedly robbed a man of his phone and cash worth N73,000 at knife point, were on Wednesday arraigned by the police at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendants are: Sunday Stephen, 36; Hassan Terrang, 26; Hassan James, 34; Adelaja Ariyo, 48; Anthony Ojukwu, 33; Bitrus Abednego, 22 and Lucky Anzaku, 20.

They are standing trial before Mrs. A. M. Davies on an eight-count charge of conspiracy, robbery, stealing and assault. Read more

 

Court remands customer over sex worker’s death (Nation)

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded in prison, a man, Bidemi Mojuba, accused of stabbing a sex worker to death, following a disagreement over payment.

Magistrate O. A. Olagbende made the order at the instance of the prosecution.

She remanded the defendant at Ikoyi Prison pending advice by Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Read more

 

I make N18,000 daily selling stolen phones – Suspect (Punch)

A suspected pickpocket arrested at the Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, has confessed to operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad that he made at least N18,000 daily selling stolen phones.

The suspect, Lawal Daodu, 31, was arrested on Friday around 5pm when he unsuccessfully attempted to steal a phone from the pocket of a passerby under the bridge in Ikeja.

Lawal, who had before his arrest stolen two android phones from passersby on that fateful day, was in the process of removing another android phone from the pocket of another victim when the phone accidentally fell down and attracted the attention of its owner. Read more

 

Tricycle driver arraigned for stealing 5 tricycles (Nation)

A 32-year-old tricycle driver, Azeez Adepoju, was on Thursday, brought before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing five tricycles worth N5.5 million.

Adepoju, who resides in Ajah area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 6, at Mushin area of Lagos. Read more

 

Cobbler arraigned for allegedly assaulting Uber driver (Nation)

A 32-year-old cobbler, Ibikunle Adeyemo, was on Wednesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting and stealing N90,000 from an Uber driver, Obinna Peter.

Adeyemo, a resident of Isolo, was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing before Magistrate M.O. Tanimola.

Prosecuting Inspector Aondohemba Koti said the defendant committed the offences on May 30 at Ogunmokun Street, Mushin. Read more

 

Two held for allegedly kidnapping teenager (Nation)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man and his son for allegedly kidnapping a teenager, Mathew Chukwuebuka.

The suspects, Alhaji Muhibudeen Akorede and Thoa Akorede, were said to have held their 19-year-old victim, who was rescued from their custody, hostage for nine days without food.

A statement on Wednesday by police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said the suspects were arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), who trailed them there with support from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU). Read more

 

Driver arraigned for stealing N10m household items (Nation)

A driver, Chinazo Onoh, was brought before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly stealing household items worth N10 million.

Onoh, 34, residing in Yaba, Lagos, was contracted to transport the items to Ghana.

He faces a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty. Read more

 

Comedian charged with rape (Nation)

24-year-old comedian, Iyanuloluwa Adejumobi, on Tuesday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a woman.

Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi did not take the plea of Adejumobi, who claimed that he was in court because his “amorous relationship” with the complainant went sour.

Osunsanmi, granted the comedian N300,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum. Read more

 

Worker faces N88,000 human hair theft charge (Nation)

A computer engineer, Ikechukwu Okoroafor, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing human hair valued at N88,000 from his employer.

Okoroafor, 28, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining and stealing.

Prosecuting Inspector Ingobo Emby alleged that the defendant and others at large committed the offence between July 1 and 13, at 32, Onikepo Akande Street (Road 12), Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Read more

 

Supplier ‘dupes’ pharmacist of N4.25m (Nation)

A drug supplier, James Okafor, who allegedly obtained N4,250,000, from a pharmacist under false pretence, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court.

Okafor, 49, was arraigned by the police before Mrs. M. O. Ope-Agbe on a four-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, stealing and assault.

Prosecuting Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji alleged that the defendant and his accomplices, who are on the run, committed the offence last September. Read more
