Labourer in trouble for allegedly raping minor (Nation)

The police at the weekend arraigned a 55-year-old labourer, Michael Nwaka, at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.

Prosecuting Inspector Chinalu Uwadione said the defendant committed the offence on September 1 at about 2pm, at 4, Chief Okonta Close, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant on four occasions had lured the six-year-old with “biscuits and sweets” as baits. Read more

 

Two held for alleged possession of Indian hemp (Nation)

Two men, Nurudeen Adisa and Samson Onifade, at the weekend appeared at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for alleged possession of Indian hemp and membership of an unlawful society.

Adisa, 24, and Onifade, 24, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a four-count charge of illegal possession of Indian hemp, dangerous weapons, breach of the peace and membership of an unlawful society.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Read more

 

Police arraign two for stabbing neighbour (Nation)

The police have arraigned two friends at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing their neighbour with a broken bottle in the stomach.

The police charged Sukunmi Osoloye, 33 and Afeez Sani, 30, who live in Ifako area of Lagos State, with conspiracy and causing grievous harm.

Prosecuting Inspector Donjour Perezi said the defendants committed the offence on August 29. Read more

 

Man in court for allegedly stealing 33 cartons of beer (Nation)

A 25-year-old man, Peter Odeh, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into his employer’s warehouse and stealing 33 cartons of beer worth N100, 000.

Odeh is facing a two-count charge of breaking and entry and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 8 at 12:45 a.m. at No. 39, Alhaji Amoo St. in Ojota, near Lagos. Read more

 

Men jailed seven years for defrauding US consulate (Punch)

The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikoyi, Lagos State, has secured the conviction of two fake visa agents, Ismaila Adefila and Busari Kabiru, who defrauded the United States consulate in Lagos of N50m.

The convicts were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment each by Magistrate Folashade Botoku of the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court after they were found guilty of three counts bordering on conspiracy, forgery and stealing.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the convicts, who make payment for visa applicants, manipulated the visa receipt of one applicant through CorelDraw software to generate receipt for other applicants, depriving the US consulate of N50m. Read more

 

Police arraign “spiritualist” for swindling businessman of N5.6m (Nation)

The police on Thursday, arraigned a 41 -year-old spiritualist, Osunbukola Akinola, who allegedly swindled a businessman of N5.6 million, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Akinola, who resides at Ipaja, Lagos, is charged with three counts of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and theft.

Businessman faces N1m car fraud charge (Nation)

A 39-year-old businessman, Olanrenwaju Coker, charged with obtaining N1 million on the pretext of bringing a car from overseas for a woman, at the weekend appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant, living at Ipaja, Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate Y. O. Aje-Afunwa on a three-count charge of breach of the peace, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

Coker, however, denied committing the offences. Read more

 

Driver accused of assaulting 62-year-old neighbour, two others (Nation)

A 49-year-old driver, Dauda Waheed, was at the weekend arraigned at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting his 62-year-old neighbour, her daughter and another over unpaid electricity bills.

Waheed, who lives at 1, Dada Street, Bariga, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of assault.

Pension, tax fraud whistleblower arraigned for false alarm (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, arraigned a whistleblower, Lord Edem, before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for raising a false alarm over an alleged N700m pension and tax evasion fraud.

Edem was arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi on one count of making a false statement to a public officer.

Security man arraigned for stabbing female colleague (Nation)

A 26-year-old security guard, Joshua Habila, on Monday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing a female co-worker with a broken bottle during an argument.

The police charged Habila with a lone count charge of assault before Magistrate T. A. Anjorin-Ajose.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko, told the court that defendant committed the offence on August 29, at about 8. 30a.m at their work place, located at Bibby Crest Ltd, Addo Road, Eti-Osa Lagos. Read more
