Police bust ‘child-sale’ syndicate in Lagos (Nation)

A syndicate with alleged expertise in selling children has been uncovered by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, spokesman Bala Elkana said on Sunday.

He said a traffic policewoman attached to Ejigbo Division on August 26 while controlling traffic at Jakande Gate, Ejigbo, noticed commotion near her post and intervened.

According to him, the officer discovered that the altercation was about a lady named Gift Michael, 24, found with a suspected new born baby. In her company is her ‘madam’, one Florence Nkem Douglas, 50, both of Ijegun area of Isheri. Read more

 

Rapist brothers escape from police custody, sister detained (Punch)

Two brothers, Alaba and Abiodun Musa, who were arrested by the police from the Odo-Noforija Division, Epe, for allegedly raping a teenager, have allegedly escaped from custody and fled.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the division flouted the order of the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, that the duo be transferred to the Gender Unit of the command headquarters in Ikeja.

A source said the police, in a desperate bid to cover up, arrested the suspects’ sister and clamped her in detention. Read more

 

‘Lawmaker raped me, promised to give me N20m if my husband divorced me’ (Nation)

A businesswoman, Nkeiruka Cynthia Kamalu, has told a Federal High Court in Lagos that she was raped by a federal lawmaker, Uju Kingsley Chima, on August 9, 2015.

Mrs Kamalu told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that following an incestuous relationship with Chima, the lawmaker offered to pay her N20 million if she was divorced by her husband, Mr Gabriel Igbibi.

Chima is the Member, Federal House of Representatives for Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency of Imo State. Read more

 

Dismissed soldiers, 88 others nabbed for murder, cultism (Punch)

Seven suspects, who usually wear military uniform to rob residents of Ijegun in Lagos State, have been arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state police command for dispossessing a motorist of his black Lexus RX330 SUV.

The suspects, Ndidi Oluchukwu, Owolabi Adeyemo, David Olufemi, Iseyin Israel, Emeka Ibe, Samuel Anochime and Ebedot Stephen, who had been dismissed from service by the Nigerian Army, were said to have accosted the victim on his way to Ibadan and robbed him of the vehicle at gunpoint.

The state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, while parading the suspects on Monday, said 12 pairs of military camouflage, two cutlasses, ATM cards, military identity cards, jack knives, female pants and a local ring were recovered from them, adding that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and would be charged. Man ‘sells’ marijuana at NDLEA office (Nation)

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a man, Ayobiojo Hammed, who was allegedly caught peddling marijuana at the Lagos Command of the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Justice Sule Hassan kept Hammed, of 7, Moshalashi Street, Empire, Surulere, Lagos, in prison custody following his guilty plea to a one-count charge of unlawfully distributing 630 grammes of the narcotic drug. Read more

 

Three workers arraigned for ‘stealing’ N13.5m truck (Nation)

Three employees of a haulage firm, Paul Mathias, Evelyn David and Hope Oparaugo, were on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a truck worth N13. 5 million.

The defendants, Paul Mathias, 34, Evelyn David, 32, and Hope Oparaugo, 30, of no fixed addresses were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft before Magistrate, H.O. Omisore.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 24 at 4.00 p.m. at Wandel International Nigeria Limited, Acme Road, Ikeja. Read more
