Proprietor, students of ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ school arrested in Lagos —EFCC (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, has arrested the proprietor of a ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ training school in Lagos, Frank Chinedu.

According to the verified Facebook page of the anti-graft agency, Chinedu, 22, was arrested alongside eight students of the unnamed training centre located at 14, Animashaun Street, Progressive Estate, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, while receiving lectures in internet fraud activities.

The students were Ahmed Musa, 24; Desmond Eze, 29; Preye Kingsley, 23; Benjamin Irabor, 21; Benjamin Opah, 19; Akapo Prosper, 22; Innocent Paul, 20 and Olamide Edun, 20. Read more

 

Man in court over alleged N4.3m theft from father (Nation)

A 34-year-old businessman, Innocent Osanebi, on Thursday appeared in before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N4.3 million theft from his father.

Osanebi, who resides at No.31, Bakara St., Ojodu Berger, Lagos State, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, threat to life and breach of the peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty. Read more

 

Lagos hospital MD, wife arraigned for negligence (Punch)

The Medical Director of Excel Medical Centre, Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, Dr Ejike Orji, and his wife, Dr Ifeayinwa Orji, were on Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere for causing grievous bodily harm on a teenager, Somtochukwu Ezi-Ashi.

They were arraigned on three counts of causing grievous harm, recklessness and negligence.

The couple, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Read more

 

Man assaults, robs motorcyclist (Nation)

A 29-year-old man, Oladele Oladiran, has been arraigned at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up a motorcyclist and stealing his N15,000.

He allegedly committed the offence with another person, said to be at large.

Police nab 10 suspected hoodlums in Ajah (Punch)

The personnel of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 10 suspected hoodlums in the Langbasa area of Ajah in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were said to have been apprehended in different operations carried out by the police in the area over the last few weeks.

A resident, Bukky Ayodeji, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that the hoodlums had held the area hostage for a while before they were apprehended. Read more

 

Woman ‘steals’ shoes, bags (Nation)

A 54-year-old woman has been arraigned at an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing shoes and bags worth N250,000.

Oladunni Oladimeji was said to have stolen from Chineye Nwafor.

Prosecuting Inspector Ferdinand Asu said Oladimeji committed the offence on March 19, at Olorunshogo Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos. Read more

 

LASPOTECH security guard allegedly kills colleague, cuts off his hand (Punch)

Lagos State Police Command spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, says the Command has arrested a Lagos State Polytechnic security guard who allegedly killed his colleague while they were both on night duty.

Elkana, in a statement on Sunday, told the News Agency of Nigeria that, on May 24 at 7.00a.m, operatives of Shagamu Road Police Station, in collaboration with the Chief Security Officer of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, arrested one Cletus Williams, a security guard with the institution, for allegedly killing his colleague, Okoro John, while they were on night duty.

“The suspect used a sharp knife to slash the throat of the victim and also chopped off his right hand,” Elkana said. Read more

 

Carpenter faces theft charge (Nation)

A carpenter, Yusuf Adebiyi, has appeared at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N210, 000.

He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Sergeant Michael Unah alleged that the defendant committed the offence with two others at large on May 11, at 1, Ashipa Street, Orile Agege. Read more

 

Girl flees home after spending guardian’s money (Punch)

An 11-year-old girl, Bisola Quadri, is on the run after allegedly spending her guardian’s money.

Bisola and her elder brother were said to be inside their guardian’s shop at the Boundary Market, in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, when they allegedly spent the money given to them by their guardian’s customer.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the customer had come to settle her indebtedness when she met the duo, who told her that their guardian was sick and could not come to the shop. Read more

 

Butcher steals N77,000 worth of Ponmo (Nation)

A 34-year-old butcher, Idris Wale, on Tuesday in Lagos appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing Ponmo (cow skin) valued at N77,000.

Wale, who lives at Sango in Ogun State, is charged with two counts of theft and damage to property.

Prosecuting Inspector Josephine Ikhayere said the defendant committed the offence on May 4, at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos. Read more

 

NSCDC arrests 10 for alleged cybercrime (Punch)

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested 10 suspected cybercriminals at their business hideout in Ojodu Berger, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from a victim, Emmanuel Demini.

The victim claimed that he was abducted, assaulted and forced to engage in cybercrime. Read more

 

Man jailed five years for impersonation (Nation)

A 40-year-old man, Morgan Mohammed, was on Tuesday sentenced to five years imprisonment for impersonation and fraud by an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Magistrate T.O. Babalola convicted and sentenced Mohammed after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on impersonation, stealing and obtaining under false pretence, brought against him by the police.

Prosecuting Sergeant (Sgt.) Friday Inedu had told the court that the convict impersonated and presented himself as an officer of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), defrauding his victims of N454,000. Read more

 

Court sentences Beninese to death for killing employer’s mother (Punch)

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere, on Monday, sentenced a Beninese domestic help, Christian Yavine, to death for killing his employer’s 78-year-old mother, Mariam Abiola.

The judge found 23-year-old Yavine guilty of severing Abiola’s head with a knife while she slept in her daughter’s residence in the Ipaja area of Lagos on July 1, 2014.

It was gathered that the convict’s employer, Ajoke Abiola, had gone to a vigil in a church when the incident happened. Read more
