Lagos disbands MOT Taskforce

The Lagos State government has placed an indefinite ban on the operations of the Ministry of Transportation enforcement team tagged, MOT Taskforce.

The special adviser to the governor on transportation, Sola Giwa, said the decision was reached after a thorough appraisal and review of the enforcement teams’ operations.

Daily Trust reports that the Taskforce is one of the many enforcement arms of the state government which arrests motorists and dispatch riders for traffic-related offences.

There have, however, been a series of complaints against the task force whose work is said to conflict with that of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).

Giwa enjoined the public to report the activities of any unauthorised enforcement team disguising to be MOT Taskforce to the Ministry of Transportation for onward reporting to the police for possible prosecution.

He cautioned that the ban was not an excuse for drivers to disobey the traffic laws of the state.

Giwa appealed to residents to cooperate with the state government in its effort to address traffic challenges. (DailyTrust)
