Lagos emergency workers threaten strike over salary arrears (Punch)

Lagos State may have a crisis in emergency management as some members of staff of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit (LRU) have threatened to down tools over five months’ salary arrears.

Aside from the large number of workers who had reportedly stopped reporting for work, our correspondent was told that the number of agents at the LRU call centre had been depleted.

The LRU is a unit created from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

However, operations of the unit were contracted to a firm, Avantgarde Management Services, by former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Avantgarde, under a public-private-partnership agreement with the government, then provided personnel for emergency operations. Read more
