EndSARS protesters in Lagos State have said they are unshaken by the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government.

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a statement mid-day on Tuesday announced 24 hours curfew to begin by 4 pm.

Sanwo-Olu said the “peaceful #EndSARS protest”, which began over 10 days ago has “degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society.”

“I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4 pm today, 20th October 2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders, must be found on the streets,” Sanwo-Olu said. Read more

2 dead as suspected cultists clash in Ikorodu (Vanguard)

Two persons were confirmed dead Tuesday, at Laketu area of Ikorodu, Lagos State during a clash among some suspected cultists.

The incident occurred about 20 minutes ago behind Bus Rapid Transit BRT, Terminal in Ikorodu.

Problem ensued when business and vehicular activities were paralysed due to the ongoing #EndSARS protests in Ikorodu and its environ.

Although the protests were peacefully organised at Ikorodu roundabout, Agric and some other major outlets in Ikorodu but some suspected hoodlums took laws into their hands by opening fire on one another. Read more

Armed thugs set ablaze Ajeromi LG secretariat, loot offices (Punch)

Suspected armed thugs have set ablaze buildings inside Ajeromi Local Government in Lagos State.

The LG’s Chief Press Secretary, Sheriff Fakunle, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

When contacted at 01.13pm, Fakunle said the attack was ongoing in the council.

He said, “As I am talking to you, my local government is invaded by armed thugs. Properties worth millions of naira have been vandalised. Some of these hoodlums are entering into offices, carting away properties. Read more

Hoodlums set ablaze another police station in Lagos (Punch)

Layeni Police Station at Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has been set on fire by suspected hoodlums.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the incident to The PUNCH on Tuesday.

Earlier, suspected hoodlums on Tuesday burnt down the Orile Iganmu Police Station in Lagos State.

The incident occurred around 09.45 am, according to an eyewitness.

It was also learnt that Pako Police Station is under attack.

Our correspondent also gathered that some hoodlums attacked Ajeromi Police Station but repelled by policemen. Read more

Armed hunters give security cover to #EndSARS protesters in Osogbo (Guardian)

Scores of armed hunters on Tuesday joined the #EndSARS protesters to provide security cover and prevent the infiltration of their ranks by hoodlums and thugs.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hunters, who also wore charms, expressed their solidarity with the protesters.

The leader of the hunters, Mr Nureni Adisa, who spoke at the popular Orita-Olaiya Junction in Osogbo, said their aim was to ensure that the protest was not hijacked by hoodlums and to also prevent any loss of lives and property.

Adisa urged the protesters to be vigilant and alert to forestall miscreants and hoodlums infiltrating into their midst, and to identify any suspicious persons whose aim was to forment trouble. Read more

Suspect with 200kg Indian hemp says he thought he was carrying bags of crayfish (Vanguard)

The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a 51-year-old, Ekeng Asuquo in Calabar in possession of over 200kg of Indian hemp.

Briefing Journalists at the Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Abdulkadir Jimoh said it was unfortunate for such an elderly man to engage in the wholesale and distribution of marijuana

According to Jimoh , the suspect, Ekeng Asuquo who deals in the illicit distribution of Indian hemp was arrested on actionable intelligence at Egerton street ,Calabar. Read more

#EndSARS: Shut down Twitter now, APC chieftain tells court (Punch)

A former Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Adamu Garba, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court asking the court to compel the Nigerian Communications Commission to shut down Twitter and prevent it from operating within the Nigerian cyberspace.

Garba, in a fundamental human rights suit filed on Monday, prayed the court to “direct the 7th respondent (NCC) to stop the operation of Twitter International Company in any part of the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Ironically, Garba, who is a very active user of Twitter, has over 32,000 followers.

The #EndSARS protests have been largely coordinated on Twitter where it has also been able to gather funding. Read more

#EndSARS protest stalls arraignment of robbery suspects (Guardian)

The #EndSARS Protests on Tuesday, stalled the arraignment of four men accused of armed robbery, in an FCT High Court in Kubwa.

The police was to arraign Usman Dikko, Segun Adigun, Sunday Haruna and Okafor Chimeze on four counts bordering on armed robbery.

The police counsel, Adama Musa told the court that the suspects who were supposed to be produced in court from Keffi, Nasarwa State.

Musa said that the police vehicle bringing the suspects to court was turned back due to the ongoing EndSARS protest. Read more

Akeredolu orders closure of schools amidst #ENDSARS protest in Ondo (Vanguard)

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has ordered the indefinite closure of all schools in the state following the #ENDSARS protest that has grounded the state in the last few days.

A statement by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Femi Agagu in Akure said that all schools should comply with the directive.

Agagu in the statement said “Mr Governor has directed that all schools that resumed on Monday 19th October 2020 are closed for the meantime from tomorrow 21st October 2020 because of the engulfing nationwide protest and the need to ensure safety of our students and staff.

DR Congo jail break: ‘Islamist ADF rebels’ free 900 inmates (BBC)

More than 900 prisoners have escaped from a jail in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo’s Beni city after suspected Islamist rebels attacked the facility, officials have said.

The Allied Defence Forces (ADF) was thought to have launched the assault to free its members, the mayor said.

Only 100 inmates remained in Kangbayi prison, the mayor said.

The ADF was formed in 1996 in neighbouring Uganda to fight alleged discrimination against Muslims. Read more

Humans to be deliberately infected with Covid in UK to speed up vaccine (Metro)

Test subjects could be exposed to coronavirus in controlled settings from January in a bid to speed up vaccine development, officials have confirmed.

The Government is backing so-called human challenge studies, whereby a small number of participants who have received jab will be purposefully exposed to Covid-19 to assess its efficacy.

If approved, the UK would become the first country to deliberately infect people with the disease as part of a vaccination trial. The group of 90 participants will be aged 18 to 30 and will be carefully monitored to assess how the vaccine works and any possible side effects. Read more

Danish submarine killer Madsen caught in prison escape (BBC)

Danish submarine builder Peter Madsen, who murdered the Swedish journalist Kim Wall, has been caught after trying to escape from jail.

Police said they had arrested a man near the jail and later confirmed it was Madsen.

Pictures from the scene showed armed police surrounding him near the prison west of Copenhagen.

Madsen was jailed for life for Kim Wall’s murder. She boarded his homemade submarine for an interview in 2017. Read more

He is also taking a leave of absence from CNN, where he works as an on-air legal analyst. In a statement to Vice Mr Toobin said: ‘I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologise to my wife, family, friends and co-workers. ‘I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video. Hollywood star Robert Redford is “in mourning” following the death of his son James at the age of 58.

Activist and filmmaker James Redford died on Friday after being diagnosed with liver cancer, his wife Kyle confirmed via Twitter.

His famous father’s publicist, Cindi Berger, said: “The grief is immeasurable with the loss of a child.”
