The Federal Government on Sunday opened the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to traffic, after completing repair works on a 600-metre stretch, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. NAN reports that the section between Kara Bridge and Isheri Junction inbound Lagos was partially closed on Sept. 2, for reconstruction, resulting in traffic diversion.

When a NAN correspondent visited the site, traffic regulatory agencies, law enforcement agencies and official of Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing officials were supervising removal of barricades by construction workers. Read more

Five killed, nine injured in accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, on Sunday confirmed the accident along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which claimed the lives of five persons and injured nine others.

Mr Clement Oladele, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota, Ogun, that the accident occurred at 9.10 p.m. around Danco Petrol Station, near Sagamu, on Saturday. Read more,

Lagos govt to demolish buildings on Right of Way in Lekki (Vanguard)

The Lagos State Government says it will demolish buildings obstructing government’s Right of Way (RoW) at Lekki in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this during a road assessment on Saturday in Lekki, saying that people had built structures without planning approval, thereby obstructing the government’s RoW.

Sanwo-Olu said that houses built on the RoW and obstructions on the alignment of the Lekki Regional Road were the major causes of flooding around Lekki axis. Read more

Jakande, Osoba, Amuka, others to celebrate 160 years of journalism in Nigeria (ThisDay)

A former governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande; former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba; and the publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka, are expected to join other members of the League of Veteran Journalists in Nigeria to celebrate 160 years of the pen profession in the country.

In a statement issued Sunday by the Chairman, League of Veteran Journalists in Oyo State and former editor, Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Banjo Ogundele, said the event will hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Tuesday.

A Nigerian family facing deportation has asked the Canadian government to save them from returning home, saying that their two young daughters — with another on the way — will be subjected to female genital mutilation.

Rasheedat Bakare, her husband Afeez, son Faaiq and daughter Faiqah arrived in Canada in 2017; and they had another daughter, Farhana, in Canada in 2018.

The family of five was denied refugee status on Thursday and were told to leave the country by 3 p.m. on Friday, CBC News, a division of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, has reported. Read more

EFCC arrests 23 ‘yahoo academy’ students, operators (Guardian)

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 23 suspected internet fraudsters who are operators and students of ‘yahoo academy’ in Akwa Ibom State.

EFCC in a statement said the arrests was made by its Uyo zonal office in a joint operation with some of the Commission’s operatives from Abuja, in the early hours of Thursday, November 28, 2019.

The anti-graft agency said the operatives stormed a building described as ‘YAHOO ACADEMY’ allegedly used solely for the training of youngsters in various aspects of cyber criminality.

During the raid on Essien Essien Street, Ikot Ibiok village in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, 23 suspects including operators and trainees were arrested. Read more

Police rescue kidnapped Adamawa DPO (Nation)

The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued its Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Mubi North, DSP Ahijo Muhammad, who was kidnapped last week.

The DPO was kidnapped in the northern Adamawa town of Mubi on Wednesday November 26 by gunmen who demanded N20 million for his release.

A video clip on the abductors demanding the ransom and threatening to kill him if it was not paid and a family negotiator begging for time, went virile, raising fears for the life of the DPO. Read more
