Lagos is ready for business, says Governor (Guardian)

The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, has declared that Lagos State is ready and open for business. She made the declaration at the weekend at the launch of a global campaign tagged “Lagos To The World” at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island. “We are saying Lagos is ready for business and that we mean business; we are telling the world that the state is ready for investment. With the launch of this initiative, we are selling Lagos to the world, because the ease of doing business is the state’s hallmark,” Oladunjoye said. According to the commissioner, Lagos is investment-friendly and, therefore, needs investors to promote business and create wealth for the state and themselves. Read more

‘N500m grant’ll transform communities’ (Punch)

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the N500m given to 275 Community Development Associations (CDAs) will transform communities in the state. The governor added that there was no doubt that the various self-help projects, ranging from streetlights and transformers to drainage channels and health centres, which would be constructed by the communities would complement government’s efforts. Ambode said his administration was committed to supporting CDAs in the initiation and implementation of community-based development projects. Read more

LASG seeks transparency in procurement process (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has urged senior workers in accounts departments in state offices to ensure fair procurement and payment processes and show transparency in the use of public funds. The Accountant General, Mrs Abimbola Umar, stated this at the second quarterly technical meeting organised by the state Treasury Office. She told directors/heads of finance and accounts departments in all the ministries, departments and agencies that the success story of Lagos in the area of effective management of its resources had put the state in an enviable position. Lagos showcases opportunities, woos investors (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a campaign to showcase opportunities in the state. The Special Adviser, Lagos State Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment, aka Lagos Global, Prof. Ademola Abass, said the state wanted to play up opportunities in Lagos with a view to turning the state into a desirable investment destination. A statement on Sunday said the special adviser spoke at a media inauguration of the campaign, tagged, ‘Lagos to the World.’ The event also featured the presentation of a book detailing investment opportunities in key sectors, including health and transport. Lagos paid N716.9bn to 169 retirees in June (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has credited N716.951m to the Retirement Savings Accounts of 169 of its retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme for the month of June. According to a statement, 120 retirees from the State Universal Basic Education Board, seven from local governments and 42 from the mainstream public service benefited from the payment. The Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr Akintola, Benson, said during the bond presentation ceremony that more than N38bn had been expended on 9,214 retirees from the inception of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi’s administration. Braimah emerges President of Rotary club of Lagos (Vanguard)

The Chief Executive Officer of Neo Media and Marketing, Mr. Ehi Braimah, has emerged as the 58th President of Rotary Club of Lagos District 9110 Nigeria. The appointment  was in recognition of his selfless service at  enhancing communities and improving lives across the world. Lagos plans sign language booklets for police stations, banks, hospitals (Guardian)

The Lagos State government has said it intends distributing basic sign language pamphlets for communication use in police station, hospitals, banks and other places where persons with hearing and speaking impairment seek services. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, at the 2018 Sign Language Training Workshop themed “Towards An Inclusive Lagos” in Alausa. According to him, the idea of the sign language booklet has become a necessity in addressing communication difficulties faced by persons living with speech impairment when seeking for services in public places. LASG begins Apapa cleaning, seals buildings for uncleanliness (Punch)

The Lagos State Government on Saturday commenced the cleaning of the Apapa area of the state. During the exercise, some buildings located on Egbaiyelo Street, around the Tin Can-Coconut axis of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, were sealed for unsanitary practices, ranging from open defecation to illegal dumping of refuse, among others. The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, said the state’s zero tolerance for environmental nuisance policy was still in force. In a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, Mukaila Sanusi, the commissioner was said to have warned residents who were in the habit of abusing the environment through different forms of infractions such as keeping unhealthy environment littered with all kinds of articles; Read more

Pleas, Complaints trail paceo work on N22.38bn Lagos-Abeokuta Road (Independent)

The Federal Government has pledged early completion of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta expressway to fasten socio-economic growth and international trade within Ogun and Lagos corridors. The rehabilitation and reconstruction of the about 80 kilometers road was in May awarded by the Federal Government to Julius Berger Plc at the cost of N22.38 billion. According to Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Raji Fashola, who spoke before the commencement of construction works on the road, said, it would generate both direct and indirect employment during the construction expected to last for one and half year. Land grabbers invade Lagos community, attack estates (Vanguard)

The peaceful environment of Satellite Town in Ojo area of Lagos State was disrupted recently by hoodlums, who unleashed terror on residents. The hoodlums, who the residents described as land grabbers, aka Omoniles, were said to have vandalised properties worth millions of Naira. Sunday Vanguard gathered estates affected include Luke Manuel, Sandfeild Estate, Daily Times Estate, Uba Estate, Kings’ Estate, Peter Memesi Estate, Owolabi Estate, Mobil Estate, Agip Estate and New Road Estate. According to one of the landlords in Luke Manuel Estate, Ade Ebunoluwa, the attack started as Omonile issue which saw land grabbers moving from one site to another. Read more

FG commissions feedback kiosks at Lagos, Abuja airports (Guardian

In line with the ease of doing business executive order, the Federal Government has set up feedback kiosks at the international wings of the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. The kiosks, under the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), will serve as a self-service terminal for complaints and reports, with customer service representatives also promoting the PEBEC report app. The app is the PEBEC’s official public service website for complaints and feedback on the service delivery standards of select Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). NTU, NOC hold international coaching course in Lagos (Punch)

As part of effort to develop the coaching skills of Nigeria instructors in the triathlon sport, the Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU) in conjunction with Nigeria Olympic committee at the weekend began an international coaching course at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos. The training tagged NOC/Olympic solidarity coaching course will run from July 5th to 11. According to the organisers, instructors drawn across the country would be taught on the basic techniques of triathlon by renowned International Triathlon Union (ITU) facilitators. Read more
