The Lagos Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has demanded that the transport, housing and other allowances paid to workers in the state should be increased by 400 per cent.

The union said while N30, 000 has been approved as the new national minimum wage, the minimum wage for workers in Lagos State should be N50,000. Read more

How principal defiled twin sisters – Doctor (Punch)

A medical doctor, Alabi Oyedeji, on Monday narrated to a Lagos State Special Offences Court how a principal, Samson Adeyemo, defiled twin sisters.

Oyedeji, who is a consultant at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and a forensic examiner at the Mirabel Centre, told the court that the victims informed him that the principal had sexual relationships with them between 2015 and 2016.

He added that the principal impregnated one of the victims in the course of the incessant intercourse. Read more

Labour recommits to October 16 strike for minimum wage (Guardian)

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has resolved to join other labour centres on the October 16 planned nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to conclude the N30, 000 consequential adjustments on the new minimum wage.

A 39-year-old man, Olakunle Agbaje, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing a month-old baby from his sleeping mother.

Agbaje, a resident of No. 13 Dennis Street, Arigbawonwo area of Mowe in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state, was alleged to have sneaked into Taiwo Marufu’s apartment at No. 32 Odukoya Street, Adesan, Mowe, and allegedly stole the baby while the mother was asleep. Read more

US blacklists China organisations over Xinjiang ‘Uighur abuse’ (BBC)

The US has blacklisted 28 Chinese organisations for their alleged involvement in abuses against ethnic Uighurs in China’s Xinjiang province.

The organisations are now on the so-called Entity List, which bars them from buying products from US companies without approval from Washington.

The 28 targets include both government agencies and technology companies specialising in surveillance equipment. Read more

President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Turkey’s economy if Turkey goes “off limits” after his surprise decision to pull US forces out of north-eastern Syria.

40 teams to feature as Kaduna Polo Club clocks 100 years (Vanguard)

No fewer than 40 teams are expected in Kaduna for the 2019 Georgian cup polo tournament billed for October 11. President of the club, Suleiman Abubakar,  who made the disclosure during a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, said the tournament will mark it’s 100 years anniversary.
