Lagos pardons 14 inmates after 20yrs in prison (Tribune)

Lagos State government on Friday said it has pardoned 14 inmates of the Maximum Security Prison in Kirikiri who have been imprisoned for over 20 years for various offences, while 20 others on death row had their punishment converted to life imprisonment.

According to the state government, in a statement made available by Deputy  Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Justice,  Kayode Oyekanmi, the reprieve came through the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy. Read more

A daycare operator in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, identified simply as Veronica, has been arrested by the police in connection with the defilement of a 21-month-old baby put in her care.

The child, Amaka (not real name), was reportedly molested at the facility by a yet-to-be identified person. Read more

Lagos residents to commute easily with Oshodi Interchange operation (ThisDay)

The Oshodi Transport Interchange Project, which is part of the Lagos State government’s planned effort to ease traffic challenges in Lagos, was during the week commissioned by President Muhammed Buhari, among a couple of other projects, following his second working visit to the state.  Described as Africa’s first mega bus terminal, the president had during the inauguration observed that the project would impact development in and across the state. Lagos tenant lets out landlady’s apartment, diverts rent (Punch)

A tenant at a residence on Ayantuga Street, Mushin, Lagos State, Kolawole Lawal, has run into trouble after he allegedly rented out an apartment within the house without the landlady’s consent.

City Round learnt that the two-room apartment had been vacant until sometime in November 2018 when Lawal let it out to Bakare Abiodun for N280,000, including a N100,000 commission. Read more

Power outage hits Lagos, Ogun, others over gas pipeline leakage (Sun)

A major power outage has hit major parts of Lagos and neighboring Ogun State over a gas pipeline leakage leading to a drastic drop in power generation.

Statistics from the Advisory Power Team, Office of the Vice President indicated that peak generation attained on Thursday was 4,546 megawatts (MW) as against 4,624MW generated on Wednesday, representing a drop of 67MW. Read more

FG bars aircraft from landing at Lagos helipad (Punch)

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the aviation industry safety regulator, has barred aircraft from landing on the Lagos-owned helipad on the premises of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

Saturday PUNCH investigation revealed that the helipad had not been put to use since it was inaugurated on August 12, 2016 by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Findings by Saturday PUNCH revealed that the Federal Government placed a ban on the usage of the helipad owing to safety concerns. Read more

Again, PDP calls on Lagos CP to get Segun Adewale arrested (Tribune)

Chairman, Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Adegbola Dominic, on Friday called on the state Commissioner of Police, Zubair Muazu, to get Otunba Segun Adewale aka Aeroland, who he said has been laying claim to the same chairmanship post, even though he is not a PDP member.

Dominic made this call in a signed petition written to the police boss, titled: “Unnecessary and Preventable Break-in and Entry at PDP Secretariat,” copy of which was made available to Tribune Online, complaining that Adewale and his thugs broke into the party office again early Friday on the pretext that they were holding a party meeting. Three killed in fresh Kaduna attacks (Nation)

The Kaduna State Government yesterday announced the imposition of 24-hour curfew on Kasuwan Magani area of Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.

The curfew followed the eruption of fresh crisis in the area on Thursday, during which three persons were killed and a house razed.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday (26) a provisional suspension from competition against Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum for an Athlete Biological Passport violation.
