Lagos Police records 45 missing persons in five months (Nation)
Fourty-five cases of missing persons were reported across police stations and divisions in Lagos since January, the command said on Tuesday. Spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) stated this while responding to questions by The Nation on the spate of missing persons in the state. According to Elkana, the police had been on top of their game by ensuring that crimes did not go undetected and culprits unpunished. Read more
EFCC arrests ‘proprietor, students of Yahoo Yahoo school’ (Guardian)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Monday said it has arrested the proprietor of a Yahoo Yahoo training school in Lagos. The 22-year-old suspect Frank Chinedu, 22, was arrested alongside eight students of the unnamed training centre located at 14, Animashaun Street, Progressive Estate, Ojodu Berger, Lagos while receiving lectures in internet fraud activities. “The suspected internet fraudsters were arrested undercover on May 22, 2019, following intelligence reports received by the Commission about their involvement in alleged criminal activities,” said in a statement on Tuesday. A magistrate’s court in Kano State Tuesday ordered the arrest of Munir Bayero, chief of staff to Muhammadu Sanusi, emir of Kano, Mujitaba Abba and Sani Kwaru, also aides of the monarch. The Magistrate Muhammad Idris gave the order based on a request by the Kano State Public Complaints And Anti- Corruption Commission. Ganduje appoints 11 female Permanent Secretaries (Nation)
The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has approved the appointment of 11 women as Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service. A statement by the commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba, in Kano on Tuesday said the appointment was in compliance with the National Policy on Women that reserves 30 per cent for women under the affirmative action guidelines. One killed, three kidnapped in bandit attacks on Katsina villages (Guardian)
One person was killed when bandits attacked Biya-ka-Kwana village in Batsari council area of Katsina State on Sunday night. Three other persons, including a woman, were abducted in the early hours of Tuesday by kidnappers at Dan-Ali village, in Danmusa council area of the state. 11-yr-old girl dies in well in Kano (Nation)
The Kano State Fire Service on Tuesday confirmed the death of an 11-year-old girl, Fatima Abdullahi, in a well in Zaura Ganduje, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state. The Spokesman of the service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the accident happened on Tuesday morning. Mohammed told NAN that the service received a distress call from Dawanawu Fire Station that a girl had fallen into a well and responded immediately. Read more
Thunder strikes herbalist dead in Ekiti (Guardian)
A middle-aged herbalist was struck to death by thunder on Sunday in Aramoko in Ekiti State. The victim, a staff of Ekiti State House of Assembly Commission, whose name was given as Babatunde Sule, was struck to death in his rented apartment located at Oke-Oja area of the town. Wooden passenger boats that are more than five years old are to be banned from a lake in the Democratic Republic of Congo where hundreds of people are feared to have drowned at the weekend. Some 45 people are known to have died when an overcrowded boat sank on Lake Mai-Ndombe. About 200 remain missing. The partial ban on older wooden vessels was announced by a provincial governor.
