An unnamed security guard of a private school in Lekki, Lagos State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling a four-year-old pupil of the school.

This is just as the family of the girl accused the school management and a police station in the area of attempting to frustrate investigations on the case.

A twitter user, identified as Omolomo, @TheVawulence, said the father of the girl went to the police station – Ajiwe division – to report the incident but was reportedly threatened by some thugs on the orders of the school proprietor. Read more 

Abuja teenager punches neighbour to death (Punch)

An 18-year-old man, Biliya Lawal, has died after receiving a punch in his stomach during a fight with his 14-year-old neighbour, simply identified as Danladi.

The duo was said to have engaged in a heated exchange of words at their compound in Gadabiu in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory which resulted in a physical fight.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident which happened around 6 pm on Friday had become the talk of the town.

A commercial driver in the area who gave his name as Aliyu said the reason behind the exchange of words and subsequent exchange of punches was unknown. Read more 

Woman tortures house-help for allegedly throwing baby on floor (Nation)

A 25-year old woman, Chinyere Ifesinachi, has been arrested for allegedly abusing her little house-help, Idinmachukwu in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The suspect reportedly used cane and pestle to inflict varying degrees of injury on the victim who she accused of throwing her baby on the floor.

The Nation gathered the suspect, a native of Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area but married to an Enugu man, blamed the devil for the act, pleading for mercy. Read more

Sanwo-Olu seeks partnership with Sweden on clean energy for Lagos public transport (Leadership)

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday stressed his intention to work closely and partner with the Swedish government in the areas of economic cooperation and getting clean energy for its public transportation sector.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this when he received the ambassador of Sweden to Nigeria and other ECOWAS States, Ms. Annika Hahn-Englund, on a courtesy call at the State House, Marina.

He said Lagos State government was not unaware of the emerging issues surrounding operations of public transportation, disclosing that plans were underway towards strengthening safety and improving transport infrastructure to give commuters new experience. Read more

8 killed, 7 injured in Bauchi road accident (Tribune)

THE Bauchi State command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of eight persons in a road accident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

In a statement, the Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, said the crash, in which seven other people were injured, occurred at Kili village on the Darazo-Kari Federal Highway at 12.03 a.m.

“It was a lone traffic crash involving a gray Volkswagen Sharon mini bus with vehicle registration number BCH 465 XA belonging to the fleet of NURTW used for commercial purposes”, Abdullahi said. Read more

FG airlifts 2,371 stranded Nigerians from war-torn Sudan (Guardian)

The Federal Government has so far evacuated 2,371 Nigerians stranded in war-torn Sudan.

Dr Onimode Bandele, Director of Special Duties, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) gave the figure in Abuja on Saturday when 125 stranded Nigerians arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the batch was the 15th set of Nigerians the Federal Government airlifted back to the country. Read more

DC Comics is giving Wonder Woman a daughter named Trinity (EW)

Wonder Woman has been a superhero, a feminist icon, and a movie star over the decades, but this year she’s going to add another title to her resume: mother.

IGN revealed on Friday that DC Comics is introducing Trinity, Wonder Woman’s daughter, in the upcoming anniversary issue Wonder Woman #800. She was created by writer Tom King and artist Daniel Sampere, who are taking over the monthly Wonder Woman comic when it relaunches with a new issue #1 this September.

Like most DC anniversary specials, Wonder Woman #800 will feature stories from multiple creators. King and Sampere’s contribution will introduce Trinity before she takes on a larger role in their series this fall. Read more

Flight Risk is set to be funded by Lionsgate, who will reportedly take the movie to Cannes. Meanwhile, Davis Entertainment will handle production alongside Gibson and Bruce Davey’s production firm Icon Productions.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is visiting Rome, where he is meeting political leaders and having an audience with Pope Francis.

“An important visit for approaching victory of Ukraine!” he tweeted as he landed in the Italian capital. He met Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella and is now at Vatican talks with the pope.

NPFL: IMC fines Plateau Utd for assault on match officials (Leadership)

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) have deducted three points and three goals from Plateau United for physical assault on Match Officials by their fans who breached security at the end of MatchDay 17 fixture against Remo Stars at the New Jos Township Stadium on Sunday, May 7.

In addition to the points and goals deduction from their total accrued, Plateau United have also been ordered to pay N2.5m as sanctions for other breaches arising from the incident.

Plateau United was charged for breach of Rules B13.18, B13.52 and C11 which variously were for encroachment on the field of play by supporters to harass Match Officials, failure to ensure adequate and effective matchday security and assault on Match Officials in the course of the MatchDay 17 fixture.
