Lagos Senator wins election in Ogun (DailyTrust)
The Senator representing Lagos West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has won the Ogun West senatorial election in Ogun State.
Adeola, aka Yayi, had switched his political base from Lagos to Ogun State, and ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He polled 112,887 votes to defeat his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party, Ganiyu Dada Obanibasiri who scored 60,189. The Labour Party candidate came third with 19, 244 votes. Read more
Banky W, Obanikoro lose as Labour Party wins Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat (Vanguard)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party (LP) as the winner of the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Prof Funmilayo Odukoya, who is the INEC Returning Officer, made the declaration on Sunday at the Collation Centre, Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, Marwa, Lekki 1.
Attah won with 24,075 votes, beating his counterparts, Mr Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 18,666 votes, and Mr Babjide Obanikoro of the APC, who had 16, 901 votes. Read more
Speaker Gbajabiamila reelected for 6th term (ThisDay)
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has hailed his constituents in the Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State for electing him for the 6th term.
Gbajabiamila emerged victorious during the presidential and National Assembly elections that took place on Saturday.
He polled 19,717 votes and defeated his closest opponent, Bosun Jeje of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 5,121 votes. Read more
El-Rufai warns against election result protest (Punch)
The Kaduna State Government has warned against any form of protests over the Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections results in the state.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the announcement of result remained the exclusive preserve of the Independent National Electoral Commission, reminding residents that declaring unofficial result had its implications.
He said, “As the collation of election results progresses, the Kaduna State Government hereby reminds citizens that protests of any sort remain strictly prohibited across the state. Read more

The Senator representing Nothern Senatorial District of Cross River in the National Assembly, Sen Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, has defeated Governor Ben Ayade to clinch the Senate seat.
Senator Jarigbe garnered 76,145 to defeat governor Ben Ayade who polled 56, 595 votes in the exercise.

Fmr governor, Gbenga Daniel clinches Ogun-East senatorial ticket (Tribune)
Former governor of Ogun State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, won the last Saturday election with 115,147 votes.
He was declared the winner by the returning officer, Prof. Christopher Onwuka, at the Ogun East Senatorial Collation Centre in Itoro Hall, Ijebu-Ode.
Daniel cleared all nine local government areas in the senatorial district, including Ijebu North, Odogbolu, Remo North, Sagamu, Ijebu North East, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu East, Ikenne and Ogun Waterside. Read more
NDLEA arrests 3 grandpas, others for drug trafficking (Punch)
Three sexagenarian grandfathers and a Nigerien top the list of suspects arrested in connection with the seizure of over 52.252Kg of cocaine, methamphetamine, and skunk as well as 32,590 pills of opioids in Lagos, Kwara, Plateau, Sokoto and two courier companies by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in the last one week.
The agency’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to the agency, the first suspect, Onyebi Chimaobi, who frequents Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Uganda and had been on NDLEA’s watchlist was on Saturday, February 18 arrested at Victory Estate, Iba, Ojo area of Lagos in connection with the seizure of 19.70Kg cocaine abandoned in an Ethiopian airline flight that arrived Lagos airport on Thursday, February 9. Cash Crisis: FG assures banks, others of N2b insurance claims payment (Leadership)
The federal government has promised that the insurance companies in the country will compensate banks whose properties were destroyed by the aggrieved customers as long as those properties were adequately insured.
The aggrieved customers protested against the scarcity of the new N200, N500 and N1,000 notes as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) refused to shift its February 17, 2023 deadline for the old money to be used as legal tender, despite a Supreme Court judgement mandating the use of the old currency side by side with the new ones.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari finally ordered reintroduction of the old N200 into the system which would become legal tender until April 2023. Read more

Ice-T says hip-hop got “goofy” in the mid-2000s (NME)
Ice-T has said he observed a “paradigm shift” in the hip-hop scene during the mid-2000s, which was when he last released an album.
The artist’s last solo hip-hop album ‘Gangsta Rap’ came out in 2006, with his focus then shifting to his heavy metal band Body Count.
In a recent interview with Variety, Ice-T said that the changing nature of the hip-hop scene left him feeling “uncomfortable”, and as such he has no plans to make any more solo records at present. Read more

Lana Del Rey revealed the original plan for her special feature on Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album, “Midnights.”
Before the album came out Oct. 21, the “Anti-Hero” singer posted videos on social media to announce each track on “Midnights.” She surprised fans when she shared that Del Rey would be the solo feature on the album for the song “Snow On The Beach.”
On the airy and serene track, the singer-songwriters harmonize during the chorus as the “Video Games” musician faintly repeats the lyrics “like snow” in the background. Their voices beautifully blended together, but some fans were hoping to hear Del Rey sing her own verse. Read more

Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis both won for their supporting roles in Everything Everywhere All at Once. A tearful Quan confessed it was an emotional moment as he learned that night that, should he win, he would be the first Asian actor to be a victor in the category.
“When I heard this, I quickly realized that this moment no longer belongs to just me. It also belongs to everyone who has asked for change,” said Quan, who called out his fellow Asian acting nominees in Hong Chau, Stephanie Hsu and Harry Shum, Jr. He also addressed star and fellow nominee Michelle Yeoh: “I’m so glad that when we both started our careers in 1984, that one day, we [met] on a big screen.” Read more
Greg Laurie on Jesus Revolution: ”God’s hand has been on it from the beginning” (Fox)
“The timing of this [film] is incredible, and I believe God’s hand has been on it from the beginning,” said Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in California and Hawaii, who appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday to discuss his new movie, Jesus Revolution.
The film stars Kelsey Grammer, among others, and is based on a book co-written by Greg Laurie.

Twitter lays off at least 50 in cost cuts (AlJazeera)
Elon Musk’s Twitter has laid off dozens of employees in what is at least the eighth round of job cuts since Musk took over the social network in late October, the Information reported.
The job cuts on Saturday affected multiple engineering teams, including those supporting advertising technology, the main Twitter app, as well as technical infrastructure to keep Twitter’s systems up and running, the report in the US technology-focused publication said early on Sunday, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter.

Manchester United claimed their first trophy since 2017 with victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Tommy Fury defeated Jake Paul by a split decision on Sunday, even though he went down in the final round at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
Two judges had Fury winning by the same score, 76-73. One scored it for Paul, 75-74.
Fury was the quicker and better boxer of the two and did a good job of controlling the distance. However, Paul, who stalked Fury, managed to land many of the cleanest shots of the fight. Read more
Kirk edges Cole in playoff for Honda Classic victory (StraitsTimes)
Chris Kirk birdied the first playoff hole to beat Eric Cole at the Honda Classic on Sunday, ending a near eight-year title drought with his fifth US PGA Tour triumph.
It was an emotional win for the 37-year-old American, whose last victory at Colonial in 2015 was followed by time away from the game in 2019 to deal with depression and alcohol misuse.
He took a two-shot lead into the final round and carded a one-under-par 69, shaking off a bogey at the 72nd hole with a birdie when they returned again to the 18th for the first hole of the playoff. Read more
