Lagos slashes ferry fares by 40% (Guardian)
Lagos State Government on Monday slashed transport fares on Lagos state-owned ferries by 40 per cent.
The Managing Director of Lagos Ferry Services, Hon Abdoulbaq Ladi-Balogun, who disclosed this in a briefing, said the state government in appreciating the commuting public for embracing water transportation as an alternative means and decongesting the roads, has decided in celebrating Nigeria 60th Independence to reduce prices on all boat trips from all routes within the state to 60 per cent from 30th September to 2nd October.
He passengers will stand a chance to win numerous prizes and tickets to be part of the boat cruise on October 3 via raffle draws while onboard. Read more

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will humble all opponents to win the Oct.31 Lagos East senatorial and Kosofe state constituency 2 by-elections by a landslide.
Chief Kaoli Olusanya, Vice Chairman, Lagos East, made the assertion on Monday in Somolu during a meeting with ward chairmen of the party and council officials in the senatorial district.
He said the party had delivered democratic dividends to Lagosians over the years, and residents trusted it for credible leadership.

Police arrest 4 in Ogun for unlawful possession of human skull (Vanguard)
Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested four persons for unlawfully been in possession of a human skull in Odogbolu, Odogbolu local government area of the state.
The command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said the suspects were arrested on Thursday 24th September 2020.
The suspects, according to the statement are Muyideen Tolubi, Niyi Folorunso, Sonubi Taiwo, and Remilekun Folorunso were arrested following the information received by the police in Odogbolu division that some people were digging a grave with the aim of removing already buried corpse who was not in any way related to them. Court fines senator Abbo N50m for assaulting woman at sex-toy shop (Punch)
The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, awarded N50m damages against the senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, to be paid as compensation to a female attendant at a sex-toy shop, Osimibibra Warmate, whom he assaulted.
Justice Samira Bature gave the order in her judgment on the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Warmate against the senator.
The video clip of the alleged assault of the woman by the senator had gone viral.
The police had in 2019 charged before a magistrate court in Zuba, Abuja with one count of assaulting Warmate at a sex-toy shop in Abuja. Read more
FG prioritises security in railway transport sector, introduces scanners (Vanguard)
With the inauguration of the Warri Itakpe rail station in Agbor, Delta State, due in a few days, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Transport, Honorable Rotimi Chibuke Amaechi have prioritised the security of passengers and others with the introduction of top-notch security baggage scanners in railway transportation across the country.
The Warri Itakpe station, connecting Kogi, Edo and Delta States, has been slated for inauguration on Tuesday, September 29, in fulfilment of the promises of the administration to deliver on some of its big projects in infrastructure before the end of the year.
To complement the initiative, the Nigerian Railway has successfully installed world-class security baggage scanners with super high speed electronic digital passenger screening point and notification sign across the railway station IDU terminal and more. Read more

Kwara by-election: Tribunal sacks APC lawmaker, declares PDP winner (Punch)
The Kwara State House of Assembly Rerun Election Petition Tribunal, on Monday, nullified the victory of Adam Rufai of the All Progressives Congress in the by-election for Patigi constituency.
The tribunal subsequently declared Salihu Mohammed Gada of PDP winner of the by-election held on March 14, 2020.
However, the Kwara State chapter of APC rejected the judgment of the tribunal which declared the candidate of PDP the winner of the recent Patigi by-election.
The seat became vacant when Rufai’s brother, Saidu Ahmed, died in December 2019 after a brief illness. Read more

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed the assurance that corps members who would participate as ad hoc staff in the Ondo State Governorship Election in October would be adequately protected.
The INEC Chairman stated this during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting held at the Conference Room of the INEC State Office in Akure, the state capital.

On Sunday night, Chrissy shared videos from her hospital bed explaining how the bleeding grew worse after spending weeks on bed rest. ‘I’ve been on bed rest for a few weeks and that’s like, super serious bed rest,’ she explained in her Instagram stories. ‘I get up to quickly pee and that’s it, I take baths twice a week, no showering. Just as little as possible.
‘I was always, always bleeding. I’m about halfway through pregnancy and the blood has been going on for like a month – maybe a little less than a month.

Spain’s top court has upheld a decision to ban Catalonia’s separatist leader Quim Torra from holding public office.
The case stems from Mr Torra’s refusal to take down a pro-independence symbol from a government building ahead of last year’s general election.
He was found guilty of disobeying a court order to remove the banner, and will now be forced to stand down.
The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Mr Torra’s 18-month ban triggered immediate calls for protests. Read more

Seventh seed Petra Kvitova moved into the second round of the French Open by beating France’s Oceane Dodin 6-3 7-5 in the opening match of day two.
