Lagos socialite Ashogbon charged with perjury (Nation)
The police have brought a Lagos socialite, Otunba Olusegun Ashogbon (also known Titilayo Oladimeji), before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged perjury.
The Zone 2 Command, Onikan, arraigned Ashogbon, 57, on Friday, before Magistrate O. O. Otitoloju on a one-count charge of supplying the police false information against one Aderemi Remi-Louis.
Prosecution counsel Mr. M. Aruna, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP), alleged that the Owo, Ondo State-born defendant committed the offence on November 12, 2015, at Are Avenue, off Sawyer Street, Dopemu, Lagos. Read more

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says no amount of attacks, sponsored or otherwise, will stop the implementation of approved recommendations on reform of broadcasting code.

Don’t pay cash for prepaid metres, BEDC tells customers (Guardian)
The management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has warned its customers against making cash payments during the ongoing Metre Asset Provider (MAP) scheme.
The Executive Director, Commercial, Mr. Abu Ejoor, speaking at the launch of the Ondo State MAP scheme in Akure, said none of the customers across the four states of coverage of the electricity company should pay cash to anybody.
“Once a customer’s premises is cleared, such customer would be advised on how to pay for the meter, whether single-phase or three-phase, the price of which is N38, 350 and N70, 350 respectively,” he said. Read more
FG secures $4bn World Bank loan for power sector ― Ahmed (Vanguard)
The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, has revealed that the Federal Government has successfully secured the loan of $4 billion for the power sector.
Ahmed, disclosed this while addressing the press on the outcome of the just-concluded annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Seven Boko Haram fighters killed, others crippled by self-inflicted IED (Nation)
In what could be best described as boomerang, seven Boko Haram fighters were killed while eight others were crippled after their vehicle ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) they had planted for troops in Lamba’a forest in Borno State.
The Nigerian Army has launched renewed offensive against Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast.
The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja. Read more
Police confirm kidnap of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vanguard)
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Musa Rambo, the Police Area Commander in Suleja.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, said the ACP was abducted on Saturday at about 3.30 pm.
Sabo said on Sunday in Kaduna that the police officer’s car with registration number KRD 753 BT and his ID card were found abandoned along the road by a team of Operation Safe Haven.
Sabo added that the vehicle was abandoned near Knock Bridge, a border area between Kaduna and Nasarawa States. Read more

Mrs Hadiza Dagabana, Acting Director-General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says every Nigerian is eligible for the issuance of the National Identity Number (NIN) free of charge irrespective of the age.
Dagabana who said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, stated that the NIN was a prerequisite for every Nigerian and legal residents in order to access government services.

Courts block a rule to keep out low-income immigrants (Economist)
IT IS GROWING harder to keep track of America’s immigration rules. Every so often President Donald Trump’s administration tries to restrict entry for one category of immigrants or another, provoking outrage from Democrats, immigrant advocates and some state governments. Then courts push back on the proposed limitations, often pointing to clumsily written regulations.
One such rule, which had been due to come into force on October 15th, would have cracked down on low-income foreigners already in America who were seeking green cards or visa extensions. On October 11th three federal courts, in California, New York and Washington state, put a hold on it, calling it ill-justified. Read more

South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Lee In-tae has assured that his country will continue to promote Taekwondo in Nigeria.
In-tae, who gave the assurance during the final day of the 10th Korean Ambassador’s Cup at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere Lagos on Friday, said the Championship is part of efforts to promote Taekwondo in Nigeria.
The competition which has over 150 athletes from 25 teams compete for honours, was organized by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation and supported by the Korean Embassy in Nigeria. Read more
Lukaku, Martinez strike twice as Inter edge in seven-goal thriller (Punch)
Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez scored two goals each as Inter Milan survived a late fightback to beat Sassuolo 4-3 at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday.
Martinez struck inside two minutes before Domenico Berardi equalised, but Lukaku gave Inter breathing space with a powerful strike and a penalty before half time.
Martinez stretched his side’s lead to 4-1 from the penalty spot after the break, but Sassuolo hit back through Filip Djuricic and Jeremie Boga strikes. Read more
La Liga: Barcelona beat Eibar to go top (Nation)
Barcelona moved to the summit of La Liga as goals from Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez earned them victory at Eibar.
They were on their way to a fifth successive win in all competitions in the 13th minute when Griezmann fired low past goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.
Suarez had an effort ruled out for offside after the break before Argentine Messi slotted in the second.

Cricket:Nigeria lose first match by 69 runs to Jersey in T20 World Cup Qualifiers (Vanguard)
Nigeria’s senior national male cricket team on Saturday lost by 69 runs to Jersey in their first Group B match at the ongoing T20 World Cup Qualifiers in the UAE.
In the match played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Jersey post her highest ever score in a T20 cricket competition with 184 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Parachutist gatecrashes Inter Milan’s win at Sassuolo (Guardian)
A parachutist landed on the pitch during Sunday’s seven-goal Serie A thriller between Sassuolo and Inter Milan in northern Italy.
The game was briefly suspended at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium two minutes before the break.
Romelu Lukaku was just about to take a penalty when the incident occurred with the Inter Milan striker going on to convert for a 3-1 lead for the visitors. Read more
