Drugs: Wanted Lagos hotelier’s 6 houses, N217m seized (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has declared wanted a Lagos socialite and owner of Adekaz Hotels, Ademola Kazeem, over offences bordering on exportation and trafficking of illicit drugs as well as money laundering.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the decision to declare the suspect wanted followed his failure to honour invitations by the agency.

Babafemi noted that the suspected drug kingpin was uncovered as the sponsor of some traffickers arrested by the anti-narcotic agency in their recent attempt to export cocaine to Dubai, UAE, and other destinations outside Nigeria.

He said, “Soon after the arrest of one of his mules, Bolujoko Babalola, a Lagos BRT driver on June 27 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Ademola Kazeem, who is also the chairman of Adekaz Global Integrated Services, went underground. Read more

Bamise’s case reported as kidnapping – Witness (Punch)

Trial continued on Monday for the driver of the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit, Andrew Ominikoron, who allegedly murdered a fashion designer, Oluwabamise Ayanwole.

The police witness, Goddy Ihende, was cross-examined by the defence counsel, Abayomi Omotubora, at the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

Ihende told Justice Sherifat Sonaike that the case was initially reported as a kidnapping incident.

Ominnikoron is facing five counts bordering on rape, conspiracy, felony, sexual assault, and murder. Read more

Lagos-Ibadan highway kidnappers killed captives over ransom, collected N3.2m from my father – Lady (Punch)

One of the released victims of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway abduction, Aminat Taiwo, has narrated how her father paid N3.2m to her kidnappers before she was released alongside her friend, Tobi Orekoya.

Aminat, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on Monday, said her father took the ransom to the kidnappers deep in the forest, where they were held.

The victim, her friend and some other road users were kidnapped last Friday near the Sat Guru Maharaji Garden at the Ibadan end of the expressway.

The abductors contacted the families of the victims and demanded ransom ranging from N50m to N10m. Read more

Lagos policewoman beats accountant seeking blood for wife (Punch)

A chartered accountant, Anu Hunwathan, has accused a policewoman of assaulting him and tearing his clothes during an altercation at the Badagry Roundabout in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

Hunwathan said an argument ensued between him and the cop after she demanded N100 bribe from a taxi driver on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

The University of Lagos graduate explained that his wife just gave birth and he was looking for blood when the taxi he boarded was stopped by the woman, who allegedly threatened to impound the vehicle if the driver did not pay the bribe.

Hunwathan said the cop turned on him when he refused to get down from the vehicle, adding that she held him, tore his clothes and threatened to deal with him. Read more

23-year-old mechanic disappears, family seeks help (Punch)

A Lagos resident, Babatunde Banjoko, has cried out following the disappearance of his brother, Adewale.

The 23-year-old mechanic was said to have left his parents’ house at Igando in the Alimosho area of Lagos State on October 14 and never returned home.

Babatunde told our correspondent that the family, which had been disturbed by the incident, reported a case of a missing person at the Igando Police Station.

Lagos lottery firm justifies rejecting N72m winning (Punch)

A lottery brand, Green Lotto, has said its refusal to pay a businessman, Sunday Nwachukwu, a sum of N72,700,000, for his win was due to some irregularities.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Nwachukwu dragged Green Lotto and its agent, Charles Akhenanen, before the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square over the company’s refusal to pay his winning sum of N72,700,000.

The complainant, who testified before Justice Modupe Nicol-Clay, last Thursday, said he played a game on January 29, 2021 with N330,000 and won but the company refused to pay him.

The firm and Akhenanen were arraigned for allegedly stealing N72,700,000.

Lagos landlord’s grandson rapes 8 year-old, victim’s family threatened (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 21-year-old man, Ola Obey, for allegedly raping an eight-year-girl in the Meiran area of the state.

The victim’s family alleged that Ola, who was the grandson of the landlord, raped her twice at their home on Bale Street, Oyetoro, on October 24 and 25, 2022.

They also alleged that the suspect, after the rape, stole N20,000 from their apartment.

The victim was said to be living with her married elder sister, Zainab, when the incident happened. Read more

Lagos woman jailed 10 years for sex trafficking (Punch)

A mother of five, Chinyere Raman, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment  by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State for trafficking a lady to Libya.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro handed down the verdict on Friday after convicting her of human trafficking and promotion of prostitution.

Raman was arraigned in 2019 by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.

She was accused of buying the victim for 300, 000 Libyan dinars from a Cameroonian (said to be at large), for the purpose of subjecting her to exploitation and prostitution. Read more

Lagos guard kills ‘tenant’ over rent payment (Punch)

A security guard with Corporate Victoria Gardens Security Company, Desmond Gudyu, has allegedly punched a 26-year-old man, Akeem Nuhu, to death during an altercation on Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Gudyu, who was employed to guard a building in the area, was said to have accommodated Nuhu in his security post after the latter agreed to pay him rent.

Trouble started on Monday, October 10, when Nuhu, who worked as a motor boy in a pure water company, failed to pay the agreed sum.

This reportedly led to an argument between them as Gudyu allegedly punched Nuhu, who fell and died. Read more

Lagos court remands man over N66.5m fraud (Punch)

A Lagos Special Offences Court sitting at Ikeja on Thursday remanded a man, Adeleye Fayose, in a custodial centre over alleged N66.5m oil fraud.

Justice Mojisola Dada remanded the defendant in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre after his plea was taken.

The defendant was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alongside his company, Brooks and Knight International Limited, on three counts bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

The EFCC’s prosecutor, Samuel Daji, alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N66.5m, property of GOSL Nigeria Limited. Read more

Lagos police nab 51-year-old man for kidnap, rescue victims (Guardian)

Lagos State Police Command has paraded 51-year-old Austin Kanu for abducting four teenage boys. Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect lured the victims from Ogba and Agege to Surulere.

According to him, operatives of Surulere Division rescued the victims: 16-year-old Toheeb; 16 year-old Isaac; 16-year-Old Chukwuma and 18-year-old Idowu (surnames withheld) on October 29, 2022 at about 8:10p.m. in an isolated place within the National Stadium, Surulere by the Chief Security Officer of the stadium, who was on routine patrol and then alerted the police.

He said: “Their parents when contacted confirmed that the boys had been missing since the early hours of October 29, 2022.

“The suspect will be arraigned at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

Househelp sues employer for flogging her (DailyTrust)

A 20-year-old house help, Faith Udoh, has dragged her employer, Bukola Ore, before a magistrates’ court in the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos State for flogging her. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the court that the accused flogged her househelp and inflicted grievous bodily injuries on her for abandoning what she was asked to do and instead seeing her boyfriend.

Insp Job said, “My Lord, Faith who resides with her madam at Hakeem Habeeb Close, Off Randle Avenue, Surulere, Lagos, reported the matter to the police.

“In her statement, she accused the defendant of being in the habit of flogging her at the slightest provocation.” Read more
