Lagos to tackle violence against women and girls

Lagos State is advancing with an action plan to end gender-based violence.

Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, spoke during a campaign in Katawa Market at Agbado in Okeodo Local Council Development Area.

She said the government would address gaps to end gender-based violence, including awareness of child sexual exploitation and harassment and promotion of security of the person.

According to her, the government regards safety of women and girls as priority and violence against them is unacceptable and preventable.

Between May 2019 to August 2021, she said, 4,150 cases of domestic violence were reported.

She noted that effort has to be invested to improve response to domestic abuse, strengthen protection for victims while ensuring perpetrators are prosecuted.

Iyaloja General of Agbado, Mrs Funmi George, noted that the action will support an environment where people are safe and free from physical, emotional and sexual violence, discrimination, as well as harassment.
